It's not "free" for people in the military - it's part of their income, just as for anybody whose employer provides health care insurance for their employees.

These days we pay for our medical insurance (Tricare coverage for the family isn't free) - at least for the families - for the individual active duty soldier/sponsor however and it's not part of their income but is instead what it is - free medical care.

Under Obamacare, moderate income people who are not indigent, but can't afford medical insurance will be covered by Medicaid, which is free.

But only in states that voluntarily participate, as per the USSC decison.
