Do doctors and hospitals really really care about their patients, or is it all about big medical corporations making money?

Yes, I believe many doctors do geniunely care about their patients. However, running a business takes more than nice feelings to keep it afloat.

Yes, it is all about big bucks, and medical corporations.
A friend had to go into the hospital for 10 days for a medication re-evaluation. Two weeks after he was released he went through excruciating pain because he was given the wrong pills! $20,000 for that stay, and the hospital would do nothing to make it right.
They knew he would not sue, these cases are costly and hard to prove. The word "Doctor" is just another way to say "Wall Street Greed."

I think a lot of doctors do care.
I am sure they are fucking sick & tired of filling out pages & pages of insurance forms instead of seeing & helping patients.
Hospitals rig their prices to hammer the uninsured,
but that is partly because the insurance companies hold the executioner's ax over their heads by threatening to bar thousands under their policies.
Medical Mafia insurance extorting lower [sometimes than cost] prices from Hospitals which they are forced to overcharge the uninsured.
But nobody cares about the uninsured.
But the real news is your insurance company doesn't care about you & will screw you when you are terminally ill & too sick to fight back.
The Medical Mafia must be ended.

Todays physicians have to be fluent in all shapes, forms and implied coverage
of all and any insurance company! Remember when they just had to take care
of our health? Treat us when we were sick? Deliver babies?
Now, they have to pay liability insurance premiums because everyone is out
to take them to the cleaners first chance they get, they have to cover their
butts and Im sure every decision is made taking all these things into account...
no longer are decisions simply on what is best for the patient.
And many half wits want the government involved in this process????
Maybe "half" is too generous a measure. Complete morons would fit
much better.

Recently the idea of health care hit our family hard. We got a call from our hospital "liason" that our grandfather is going to run out of coverage before he dies. Problem is he gets $12 a month too much from Social Security to qualify for Medicaid! A nursing home will cost about $6,000 a month.
This is insane. There are 46,000,000 Americans who do not have health coverage. Medical corporations run hospitals and are doing pretty well charging $54 for a pill you could buy in the pharmacy for under a buck. And, have you ever seen a doctor living on the poor side of town driving an old car?
Time to end the madness. We need national health care now. We need to get the greed of the profit motive out of healthcare.

This is insane. There are 46,000,000 Americans who do not have health coverage. The "real" number is much smaller when you subtract the 12 million illegal aliens and those who could afford insurance but simply do not get it, as well as those available for assistance who have never signed up.
And, have you ever seen a doctor living on the poor side of town driving an old car?Why should they? You can't put a price on saving a life.
Time to end the madness. We need national health care now. We need to get the greed of the profit motive out of healthcare. We need to lower the price while keeping quality intact. The opposite of which you will get with a socialized system.

Class warfare attack. Typical liberal tactic. How many years did it take the doctor to go thru school to get his medical license? How many years of residency did he spend to get his license to practice? How much does it cost to become a doctor? The estimates are about $500,000 on the low side. You expect them to work for free? How much do they spend in Malpractice insurance per year?
You really want to go after a group, go after the attorneys. I don’t know of many doctors who’s incomes are anywhere near attorneys incomes, yet it takes twice as long to become a doctor as it does an attorney.
And ask yourself this, if you had to choose between having access to a doctor or an attorney when you needed them most, which would you choose?
The liberal tactic of attacking everyone that is not them to make a point is ridiculous. Never a thought to the circumstances involved. They just see what someone has that they don’t and go straight to vilifying the individual or group.
If you don’t like doctors, don’t take advantage of their services. But if you are envious of their financial position, go to school and get a medical degree. I’m sure if you did or even attempted to do it, you would have a new found respect for those that you mock.

You can't put a price on saving a life.
Sure you can. I thought that was why all these doctors went into medicine, for the satisfaction of helping other people! Right? Right!
How come if you go to a good restaurant, and have a bad meal you are comped. But, if you are a patient and die, you have to pay the doctor and hospital? American health care is a racket, and should be put in the hands of a government run entity.

This I love! These guys have the ability to become doctors, and they could not figure out the schooling required in advance? Most of us have to work hard to get ahead. Doctors act like they are making some "special sacrifice."
If doctors are so dedicated, why don't they make house calls any more?
Doctors are in it for the cushy job where they can't be fired from screwing up Doctors are in it for the bucks, and to take an easy ride. Otherwise, why would they need one of the largest lobbys in Washington? Doctors are working hard to keep the health cares system the mess it is. It is in their financial interest.

I have a friend who has been in excrutiating pain for 2 1/2 months. He has been to 3 doctors and had 5 appointments so far. They have found nothing and have done tests that no one has ever heard of. They've loaded him up with pain pills and given him 5 minutes each. He has his 6th appt tomorrow. None are willing to sit him down and do a complete evaluation of his problems. He can't sit in a chair for more than 10 minutes. He stands or lies down. I suspect he's going to be addicted by the time they diagnose his problem. I believe that in order to be a good doctor, you have to have a calling. It can't all be on a money basis.

I don't think all doctors think or feel alike on the issue.........
I would bet 100% say there is a problem. A big one........ That is not debatable IMO. The debate is about solutions........
Dr.s make good money & should continue to do so but they are not the problem...... They gonna quite practicing if they gotta practice like the rest of the industrialized world?? FIne then those that feel that way can go practice in the third world...........
Drug, Insurance, attorneys etc. lots of hands in there, not just doctors......
We need to get in step w/ the rest of the civilized world........

Check it out. The American Medical Association is the 9th largest lobbyist in Washington, D. C. Compare them to the rest of the list! Why do you need a lobbyist other than to advance your own interest. Doctors want to keep everything the way it is. I wonder how many more times I am going to have to repeat this.

I agree with Cat Slave that mal-practice lawsuits have often gotten out of hand, but it is the insurance companies that are profiting from it now.
Doctors do need some actual accountability to help them pay attention to where mistakes can happen, & a few truly bad practitioners need to be barred from practice, but the random casino of the courtroom isn't where that should happen.
Doctors associations are too soft on their own, it should be some independent & knowledgeable people who are not beholding or overly sympathetic to doctors who attempt to keep them attentive.

You obviously have not read the entire thread. You bet I am out for blood, and I have provided the facts to prove it. The U. S. system of health care is #37 according to the World Health Organization, http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html and the American Medical Association is spending millions on lobbyists to keep things the way they are. These are FACTS. These are not humanitarians, these are con artists. Doctors, Hospital execs, Insurance Companies, and Drug Companies should be tried and jailed!

Fine! Somewhere out there in "wayers57land," there are doctors who make housecalls, and it has something to do with people who don't pay their bills. No, wait it has something to do with those who do pay their bills, but drive a Ford. It is all so confusing!
Now, lets get back to doctors, hospitals, compassion, and medical corporations.
Meanwhile, wayers57 focus, you have totally missed the point of this thread. Let's go for some main points. See if you can remember these as well as you do your doctor's visitation habits. 1). The American Medical Association is the 9th largest lobby in America, and wants to keep health care just as it is. 2). According to the World Health Organization the United States health care is #37 in the world, 36 countries have better health care than the U.S. 3). 46,000.000 Americans do not have health care. People are dying needlessly.
Wayers57, do you think you can grasp the health care issue?
