Racism vs. Bigotry

From reading the post here it seems that these two terms are often confused and I don't understand why.

Sure, all racists are bigots but not all bigots are racists.

Bigotry is a preformed prejudice about a group of people.

For example, I tend to think that people that listen to rap music all day tend to not be as educated as people that listen to classical or jazz.

I tend to believe that all politicians are lying scum. Others think differently and believe that some are honest.

We all have some prejudices so in some ways we all have some levels of bigotry.

However, racism is bigotry based on ethnic background. There's a difference. I've seen very little racism on this board. I've seen a sickening amount of bigotry on this board and while both are disgusting and almost always based on pure ignorance, there is a big difference.

Bigotry is intolerance of any group; religions, geographical location stereotypes, et. al. Therefore, railing against Islam is no more "racist" than bashing Christianity. Many people don't realize that.
