Someone from the middle east posed this question to me and answered it by pointing out that all the presidents have been WMP with the exception of 1 & he was murdered.

I assume that you mean white male protestant - I dont think any were - but there were quakers, jehovah witnesses, unitarians, and three that had no religious affiliation - and one of those - Lincoln - was also murdered???
And the answer above is correct - we are not a democracy - the US is a republic with democratic leanings

I believe the religion of the presidents has become much more important in the last 70 years. Cleveland was elected twice & he bought his way out of fighting in the civil war, which was legal ( cost $150 ). Compare that to how presidential candidates are veiwed today though our 2 most recent presidents used various means to avoid going to Vietnam.

My point also was that catholics have never been well received as prersidential candidates. Part of that was due to the percieved influence of Rome. i do beleive it will be harder for Catholics to get elected president because the GOP is in no hurry to run 1 & as far as democrats are concerned, the catholic church has become so conservative that the catholic church will try to do whatever it can to get in a democratic candidates way.

Honestly...I don't want to see a catholic as president. I don't want to see any religious driven candidate...give me a good old atheist any day of the week. I kind of like my candidates not to believe in fairy tales to give them moral guidance.

I'm all for keeping religion out of politics.
