View Full Version : Do You Boycott Businesses?
We complain about campaign donations.
We complain about illegal workers.
We complain about congress over spending.
I tend to believe that many people complain about congress spending because they like to bitch. Some of the most popular people in congress are ones that over spend, force gridlock and keep our country from moving forward.
Yet Americans will bitch about their actions and the reelect them over and over again. So I think it's bullshit when we vote for pork writers and and then bitch about it.
I also tend to believe that if you bitch about illegal workers then you should vote with your money and stop using businesses that hire them. There's a Walmart close to where I live and I watched the work force. The roads to it, the parking lot, the building and even the current upkeep appears to be an all Mexican work force. I don't really know if they're documented or not but it seems strange.
My neighbors that bitch the most about illegal workers tend to reward Walmart for using them with the most business.
They're just bitching for the sake of bitching.
Do you vote with your business or just bitch?

I vote with my business, but I tend to vote more along the lines of saying no to large corporations killing us slowly with their high fat, high sugar foods.

So you're talking about racial profiling WalMart, based on the ethnicity of ther employees?
Isn't it better to know whether they're actually hiring illegal aliens or not before you start telling everybody to boycott somebody?
You're starting to show your "Redneck Liberal" side.

How the hell do I know who hires illegal workers in my area? - unless you just want people to boycott WalMart, because or your suspicions .... and "... lots of reasons ...".
Should we stop buying Oranges made in California?
Show me who you want me to boycott. I'd love to hear it.

Not only do I boycott regularly by not spending...I'm more than willing to complain about companies on forums, on those customer review sites, etc, etc.
A while back when there was that work stoppage, where illegals decided to show just how valuable they were and needed, the guy that does my lawn, a long time friend, said that he couldn't do the lawn because of that. First, I was annoyed he wouldn't hire local college kids, etc to do the work, and then I canceled my service, I started doing my lawn myself, and as it turned out I find it rather relaxing and I save money each month.
A lot of things are out of my control. I accept that. The things that are in my control I'm extremely active in protesting it.

Maybe we should just bitch a lot, stay ignorant and do and think exactly what the pundits tell us to do. It works for a lot of people and it's big business. Glenn Beck was talking about how many people he employees.

I will occasionally boycott a business. When I do, I send a hand written letter to the head of the business telling him/her exactly why I have decided to stop dealing with them. I don't know if it has any impact.

I don't buy Citgo gas.
Aside from that, I don't get too political in my purchasing. I'm not a typical buyer though, I get what I need - not what's trendy.
I will stop buying if I get burned. I was a pretty exclusive buyer of Dell computers - bought a number of laptops and desktops from them until my last laptop purchase. It was a piece of shit and while I understand that support for computers in general sucks, Dell totally fucked it up. Took me months and maybe 50 calls/emails to get it fixed so this is the last Dell I'll be buying.
There's too many interest groups trying to smear too many opponents such that you can dig up some kind of dirt on virtually any group. Getting caught up in that fucking nightmare would make buying a loaf of bread a disaster.

So you don't buy cars then, because there are no US cars. The market is too global anymore.
I never bought into that "buy US" bullshit. It made more sense in the 70's when the domestic/import market was more defined, but today it's a matter of product quality.
US automakers can't compete - it's evident when you consider that taxpayers are bailing these fuckers out now.
I have 3 cars. Full-size Dodge pickup (great truck, > 100k miles, no major problems, routine maintenance I do myself like brakes), Dodge Durango (piece of shit - I should have bought that Honda Pilot. I got the Durango because of the warranty and V8. It's a rocket, but leaks oil and had to replace an exhaust manifold at 50k miles plus other little shit.) and a Hyundai Accent - for the gas mileage.
US "made" cars are crap and considering the labor costs (because of the unions) that US carmakers have to burden, they can't make a better, cheaper car to compete - and for that they should fail. Part of the bailout should include stipulations that the unions are busted, reducing labor costs - but that would never happen especially considering the liberals who are leading the bailout charge.

About 60-65% of the GM and Fords are made in the US.
Engines and parts are farmed out.
95% of chrysler.
But their proifit being mostly here does help our economy. At least it did at one time.
The quality is all over the place depending on the model.
The impala and malibu make the camary look like a piece of shit. But its probably too late for them.

I rented (actually, got stuck with) a Malibu on a business trip once when all the SUV's were taken. Brand new - 8 miles on it.
Total piece of shit. Granted I drove it maybe 10 miles total, but it was cheaply built, plastic trim dangling all over the place, no balls, flimsy interior. The rental place considered it a "full size" car, but honestly - I had more room in my Hyundai Accent. I took it right back and got something else.
Quality is the issue - and this is where the US companies lose. They can't compete with the Japanese and Korean imports because they can't build good cars cheaply with all of the overhead costs, so they skimp on quality (probably looking to aftermarket parts and service sales to bolster their bottom lines), dress them up cheaply to look good at the dealership and hope that some sucker comes along and buys it.

they are good dependable cars, that was what I had for a company ride the last time, you could drive it hard and fast all day and get 28 miles to the gallon. I have a trailblazer now, I like even better, more room, handles just as good, but it only gets 17-19 mpg, I had the option to trade it in for an impala this past November but I decided to keep it for another 35k miles.

I call people that follow a pundit "sheep". It doesn't matter if it's Murdoch, Mays or MCNBC. Allowing pundits to lead you is just sad. It just happens that the most popular pundits with huge flocks of sheep happen to get funding from Murdoch and Mays and they support the Neoconservative movement.
Beck, Olbermann, Hannity, Limbaugh, Sharpton, Coulter ... They're all the same. The only difference is how they get the $$$. They all lead a flock of sheep.

Here's something a found rather interesting in an email I rec'd today......
An Interesting Event in Victoria, Texas...
Victoria, Texas (pop. 55,000) is a town about 80 miles west of Houston.
Local Hispanic leaders there, in opposition to pending Immigration
Legislation, boycotted all Caucasian owned businesses in the Victoria
area this past weekend as a demonstration of their economic impact on the
community. The boycott was declared a success by the Hispanic community,
noting that revenue in Caucasian owned businesses was down by 19%.
Business owners declared the boycott a success as well, pointing out that
shoplifting was reduced by 77%, money orders sent out of the country were
down by 97%, and the cost of daily clean-up and trash collection was down
by 84%. Shoppers reported that they could actually hear English being
spoken throughout the community for the first time in recent memory, and
customers actually paid for purchases with real money, not government
debit cards.

Why?
The Israeli government is a maniacal horde of Nazis who commit wholesale atrocities and get away with it because Washington, DC is Israeli occupied territory.

I appreciate your response my brother, although I do not share your perspective on this issue.
Israel is in violation of more UN Resolutions than any nation on the planet in history. That's not a "bum rap" that's facts.
The atrocities of Jenin and Gaza are not "bum raps."
American taxpayers continue to pour billions of dollars into Israel, a welfare nation that cannot support itself, a land of little resources, and we get nothing for the billions we give away to Israel excpet supposed "friendship" .. which does not stop Israel from spying on America more than any nation.
As a nation, we can continue to act in the interests of Israel over own own and we will continue to suffer the consequences for it.
As for the link .. I'm sorry, I couldn't get past this "I don't think there has ever been a time in the history of warfare where any army has made more efforts to reduce civilian casualties and deaths of civilians" than did the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza, he told the BBC."

Is this the same area from were Hamas has been shooting rockets indiscriminately into Israel for that last 10 years?
The way I see it, you have a small country of Jewish people surrounded by a number of Arab countries that would love nothing more than to wipe them off of the face of the earth. Now in order to survive, Israel has had to build a very strong military that is capable of turning back numerous attempts to invade and destroy their country.
Now you have a small group of Palestinians that instead of finding ways to co-exist with their Jewish neighbors, have for years practiced terrorist tactics like suicide bombings and rocket attacks in an effort to make Israel’s existence miserable. Then after putting up with this, the Israelis retaliate, all of a sudden it is “un-acceptable” to the U.N.?
Think of a big kid in the neighborhood that is constantly being picked on by a group of smaller kids. They kick him from behind, throw rocks from a distance and retreat to hide behind their parents. After a while, the big kid will get a hold of the smaller kids and let them have it. Is that wrong?
Just because the U.N. has condemned Israel a number of times, does not mean that Israel is doing anything wrong. I give almost no credence to that organization. A majority of the countries that make up the U.N. have other agendas.

While I respect your perspective on the middle east, it's not one that I share .. nor does most of the planet, not just arab states or the UN.
On your question of big kid vs smaller kids .. when the big kid got a hold of one of the smaller kids, is it right for him to kill him?
From my perspective, your argument fails on the issue of proportionality.
When the presiident of Georgia attacked the Russians, thus provoking a confrontation he knew he would lose in about 5 minutes, this government sent Georgia one billion taxpayer dollars on the premise that the Russian response was disproportionate .. a benchmark we never apply to the Israelis.
Even in the face of the undeniable Israeli atrocities at Jenin, we turned a blind eye.
How do we use a UN Resolution to attack and destroy an innocent nation, then reject resolutions against Israel? The rest of the world is not stupid.
Beyond that, how much does it cost America to harbor the most hated nation in the world? With our economy collapsing all around us, how much longer can we afford to give away billions of US taxpayer dollars to Israel, which cannot support itself and has a miserable relationship with the rest of the world?
Because of our unholy relationship with Israel, China, Russia, and the SCO are making great inroads into arab states, Africa, Latin America, and far-eastern nations which hold precious resources that we need, and even many european and NATO nations keep a healthy distance from us.
Our relationship with Israel makes the SCO stronger.
Israel is asking for more money now and Obama, the first jewish president of the United States, has promised them another 30 billion dollars. 30 billion dollars would keep US automakers in business and about a million Americans still employed.
How much do we spend on terrorism .. more importantly, how many American soldiers have died "fighting it?" Our unholy relationship with Israel is what makes us targets.
In my opinion if Israel wants to take on the world, so be it .. but let them do it without precious shrinking American dollars and without costing American lives.

Seems theyve been taking on the world for a better part of 100 years....
Be nice if the big kids gang up once and a while.
If russia says those states are independent from their rule after the attack, then its not as if russia was attacked.

No, the answer to that is "Quit messing with the bigger kid!". If you don't want to be beaten up by the bigger kid, quit picking the fight!

No, the answer is balance in our approach and applying the same standards to Israel that we apply everywhere else.
