What is your definition of the "Sheep Mentality"?

I'm curious because I always thought it was someone who only followed others. Lately I've seen a lot of people so openly listening to pundits but isn't the pundits job to get people to follow?

Help me understand why following pundits isn't part of the "Sheep Mentality" and not following them is.

The biggest problem with sheep mentality is that it's being used in every thread on this forum instead of us attempting to discuss issues. We expect our politicians to attempt to work together, yet we can't even discuss any topic on this forum without it devolving into a dismissive series of sheep/pundit comments.

Granted, I believe every human falls into the sheep category as that's just human nature, they need the support of something bigger to make themselves feel stronger.

I'll even admit that I've been a sheep from time to time, and even my current political view has shades of being a sheep. I'm so invested in saying that the Dems and Reps suck, that I sometimes dismiss anything good the parties might do. That's right, I see kres post and there's this part of me that's like, "Hell YEAH! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE" I do stop myself and try to listen to others and if they make a good argument I'm open to listen to more and bairdi has had a few moments where my opinion has softened considerably because of a good argument. I guess I'm a self-aware sheep which hopefully means I'll grow beyond being a sheep someday.

To answer your question though, people gravitate towards like minded individuals, pundit, politician, religious leader, etc, etc, it doesn't matter, it's part of sheep mentality. Now just because someone doesn't listen to a Hannity, Limbaugh, etc, does it exclude them from being a sheep? If all their friends think like they do, doesn't it mean that they're herding around one ideology and therefore a sheep?

I'd rather see intelligent discussion that tries to change someone's opinion based on a persuasive argument. I don't think it'll happen on this forum, because it's easier to be dismissive than to explain a position completely.

Sheep Mentality is following someone and defending everything they say based on some principle.

Listening, especially to both sides, is just that - listening. Not following, like sheep.

So you are in favor of the alledge bailout aka the Pork Orgy?

Since you are on yet another rant we'll assume you are in favor
of more debt since you seem to have a problem with the pundits?

How can they be pundits when they are correct? Pundit is often used as a derogatory term.

The debate boils down to Spendthrifts vs. the safe and sane. Or more precisely, Obama vs. the smarter solution.

Your smarter solution is the same failed policies that got us into this mess to begin with. When Bush stimulated the economy by cutting revenue and then spending 2 trillion dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan did you jump on this board and rant about a pork orgy? When billions vanished without a trace into the boondoggle of Halliburton and Iraq did you call the conservatives out on that? No, you did not. We are in the midst of an economic crisis and you are suffering from some type of delusion that this economy is going to right itself in six months by doing nothing. It isn't going to happen. Something needs done and done now.

I am sure this response will send you on another of your little temper tantrums like the one you threw with mwillman when he called you out as a rightwingnut. So go ahead and vent all you want.

Just because that's offensive to you doesn't mean that you should try to interpret it. I'm not slamming or hating anyone. I'm just asking people to question and I know that you're against that sort of thing but others seem interested.

Why are you fascinated with my topic threads that ask people to think? What do you have against people thinking for themselves about certain issues? Just because you want the pundits to give you opinions doesn't mean that everyone else wants opinions given to them. Through out history the thought process of coming to your own conclusions has been a major break through in every successful society.

Stop hating and allow people to think for themselves.

The sheep are those that just follow along with no thought of their own. They have no opinion of their own because they don't know how to form one as they are afraid to go against the flock.

Be a sheepdog instead. Be the one to protect the flock. Form an opinion based on your own morals and character and then lead the sheep, because they need a leader.

We need more sheepdogs.

It is the dog-pack or wolf-pack mentality that is much more frightening.

A pack of rabid, vicious, MINDLESS ideologues who believe their police state ends justify any means.

It is VERY common in organized religion.

The sheep are people who through circumstance have become de-fanged or disempowered.

To Sheep:
gut a few dogs or wolves & string them up to remind yourself of what you can do.
You will feel SO much better.

Liberals, keep the head of a conservative in your refrigerator or freezer,
to remind you you don't have to put up with bullshit or nonsense from anyone,
especially the police state enemy.

And you bring it out for teaching purposes to your children & tell them,
"This, is what we do with right wing nut cases."

"Can i touch it daddy?"

Im not an expert but it looks like that is a hypocrital statement post.

And anyways its common practice for wolves to eat the sheep not the other way around.
Should i tell you the acomplishments violence has had in our history or would you agree it is far more effective than words.
There is a line somewhere but whos to say where it is anymore.

I was against it because the 2 parties had more imporant issues last spring like energy and housing. Last March I got jumped because I said peak oil has less to do with oil prices than the what wallstreet says. Housing could have been fixed too but the dems wouldn't have rational discussions.

The sheep mentality is the one that gets herded around & preyed upon by the dog & wolf pack corporate police state.

Just saying 'No' to sheephood won't do, kick some booty, physically, mentally, spiritually, psychologically, economically or on one of any number of levels.

Mantra:
"I am not a Sheep"
"I am not a Sheep"
"I am NOT a Sheep, you g-d mo fo!"

There's a difference between spin and facts. You keep forgetting that the facts are right here in the thread. You whine like a little bitch about harassing but then you come in here and harass me. Stop being a mindless hypocrite and let the adults chat about a few topics.

There's plenty of time to lose your mind but now I think you need a hobby, a friend or a date or at least something to keep your mind off of me. Or you could just keep lying about people like (calling Mac Bush 2.0, claiming I said Palin was inexperienced, claiming Bill is a homosexual, we're infringing on your rights.....)

I'll give you a good example of sheep mentality.

I'm pretty staunchly conservative. Fiscally conservative, somewhat socially moderate. Having said that, I think GW's the biggest fucking idiot in politics - for a number of reasons.

So I'm discussion this on another board with a couple of fucking robots who have zero fucking capacity to think for themselves and they keep spewing the same old blather "you're a RINO", "you're an elitist", blah blah. Totally guzzled the koolaid to the extent that they can't produce logical thought for themselves since they've adopted the RushBot mentality to the "T".

Seedy, read the posts in this thread before yours. We were having a discussion on the thread topic.

How did your post relate to the topic or the 4 posts before it in this thread? Seems like you just started harassing me about another issue.

Feel free to explain.

I have suggested that you're losing it when you go off on tangents that have nothing to with topics. Such as in this thread and I have a lot of evidence that you are a hypicrite right here on this board.

My suggestions for you getting a date, spending time with friends and family or finding some distraction are out of concern for your well being. You've lied a lot and I think you're having a hard time differentiating between reality and fantasy.

If that's not true then please explain why your post attacking me and making assumptions about an unrelated issue has something to do with the topic at hand.
