Prosecutor Says Bush Appointees Interfered With Tobacco Case

The leader of the Justice Department team that prosecuted a landmark lawsuit against tobacco companies said yesterday that Bush administration political appointees repeatedly ordered her to take steps that weakened the government's racketeering case.
Sharon Y. Eubanks said Bush loyalists in Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales's office began micromanaging the team's strategy in the final weeks of the 2005 trial, to the detriment of the government's claim that the industry had conspired to lie to U.S. smokers.

Hey Tommy,I'm sure you know,or have heard of FarHill's,N.J.(Bedminster,Morristown),in the mid 80's,I had a posistion,under the (parcial employ)of the late D.Dillion's estate.An ex.Sec.of U.S.Treasurey Dept...The bordering property owners,were/are,Malcolm Forbes,AT&T,and The Lorrillard's(tobbaco growers/manafacturers of Newport and other brand's of cigarettes) home estate...Where young Pete,grew up.Mr.& Mrs.L's property line was also that of Jackie"O"...and her daughter Caroline,who shared borders with the Gardenier Estate,the Ballentine Estate,and (the Headquarters/Training/World Class Steeple Chase/Show Horse,event courses and show rings)and home of the U.S.Olympic Equestrian Team.All these folks,were on good if not overly freindly terms.*Peter L.(*Not Peter Lawford) was still in colledge,and had yet to inherit the Family tobbaco fortune,(which he gave away),out of mis-placed,imo,guilt due to the thousands of people who were,"hopelessly addicted,and eventually died of illnesses due to thier smoking tobbaco".So from back to the days of Camelot(20 odd years prior),at least one high ranking (JFK)appointee the Sec.of Treasurey(Douglas Dillion),a Kennedy Family Friend,(Malcolm Forbes)A friendly,filthy rich but unlike alot of the extreamly wealthy...not the least bit guilty for being so...A down to earth,unpretentious guy,who threw great freaking parties...(Sorry,But the man impressed me.)One of the top world tobbaco market trading companys, family/Barons,and the CEO/Chairman of the Board,of a corporation who owns among other manufacturing companys,one that produces,commercial air purification systems.(Smoke Eater's)Funny coincidence,all neighbors,friends,and with the exception of Mr.Forbes,all democrats too.T/C. ex.
