How can a party who prides itself on being overwhelmingly white bring Sunni & Shiite together? How can a party that owes its current status to a policy implemented in the mid '60's, known as the " southern strategy" , attempt to bring the different groups in Iraq together? How can a party that spends all its energy in the U S keeping people from different backgrounds from mingling, bring people from different perspectives together in Iraq? The answer: they can't, it's not in them, it's not who they are.

I think you are giving them way too much credit - most of the republicans (and democrats for that matter) didnt even know what a sunni or shiite was until a few months ago when they heard it on the news about civil wars
