I've only heard Fred speak a few times on political issues. He was one of the people involved with the S&L Crisis so I think we know what side of the issue he's on.
Do you have transcript? I don't think he's worth 8 minutes of my life after costing so many people their life savings.

Just the video... I don't know what part he played in the S&L disaster. Though he does clearly expose how our culture of over spending and money manipulation will burden future generations.
Fred may be one of the many corrupt individuals who's MO is 'believe what I say not what I do'. I just threw this on here thinking that most forum members would agree with his observations.

I must admit that I do find the Democrats to be slightly more disgusting though.

Only the second part of your statement is correct. I have no disgust for the GOP. I don't like many members of both parties but the the people that were involved with Nixon, the S&L crisis, the recent crisis and the PNAC happen to be the worst in my mind. The majority of them happen to be republicans but only a prejudice fool would lump the entire lot together.
Sorry for calling you a prejudice fool.

The S&L is old news, very old. Fred Thompson is probably the best one that
ran however shortly. He had nothing to gain and nothing to prove. He has
been there, done that and didnt need anything out of it. Actually, I dont
think he wanted it bad enough to really run hard. Hes seen it all.
His is a voice of patriotism in an ocean of corruption.

Fred Thompson is an old guy. You might want to check out the role that he played in that fiasco since he was old enough then to help screw over many Americans. You might also want to see how much Jeb Bush and his brother Niel made off the scam.
To some it's old news.
To others it's called an education.

Think whatever you want....we are knee deep in **** now and I think the
S&L deal has little to do with where we are now. Most of us learn along
the way...if we want to that is. And you can drag up corpses from as far
back as you want to but it changes nothing. Well, guess it makes you feel
better.

We let the same people back into power that were involved with the S&L crisis. Don't you understand? We didn't learn along the way and that's why we have a crisis now.
Fred was a lobbyist and lawyer for the cause. The Bush family made $Million ripping off American citizens.
We put the Bush family back in power so that means we didn't learn from our previous mistake.
We're still listening to Fred as if he's more then an actor. Obviously we didn't learn again.
Hopefully we will learn from this mistake this time. But whatever makes you feel better.

Well, instead of discussing the messenger, I'll start with the message he delivered. Basically it's just the commonsense that many people on this forum have stated, hell, even Moby probably would agree with it if someone else had said it.
Now, the thing is, does Fred Thompson believe it? Probably not, he's just a politician, he's appealing to the masses, and probably laying the ground work for something in the future for himself.
So, divorce the message for the messenger and it's basic commonsense. Marry the two and it's just political babble.

And Bill Klinton took major $$ for his "legacy monument" from very shady
characters in The Arabic Nations. So, that must be ok or have we not
learned a wheeling, dealing, lying sob when we see them. Apparently not.
Can we say Dubai?
Fred is entitled to his opinions as are those who listen to him speak. Unlike
the Messiah about to take up residence on his throne, Thompson is at least
true to his country. So, he was a lobbyist, so what! Its a job and its legal.
Unfortunately. Fred speaks for many totally fed up people who resist the
charge into the waves led by the Pied Piper. We know when we are in too
deep.
