As Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel, Israeli troops and tanks are massing on the Gaza border. And I see a 2006 redux in the making - triggered by Hamas. At a time when Iran is most apprehensive of a possible pre-emptive strike on their nuclear facilities, before Obama takes office.

It's my opinion this could be the beginning of an Iranian pre-emptive war, by proxy, to prevent Israel from any action against them directly before Obama gets in.

Iran leader orders Muslims to defend Palestinians

TEHRAN, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Iran's Supreme Leader issued a religious decree to Muslims around the world on Sunday, ordering them to defend Palestinians in Gaza against Israeli attacks "in any way possible", state television reported.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also declared Monday a day of public mourning in Iran after Israel killed more than 280 Palestinians in two days of air strikes on Gaza.

"All Palestinian combatants and all the Islamic world's pious people are obliged to defend the defenceless women, children and people in Gaza in any way possible," Khamenei said.

"Whoever is killed in this legitimate defence, is considered a martyr," he said in a statement.

A religious decree is an official statement by a ranking religious leader that commands Muslims to carry out its message. While there is no religious and legal force behind it, Khamenei is respected by many Iranian and non-Iranian Shi'ites.

Iran refuses to recognise Israel, which accuses Tehran of supplying Hamas Islamists with weapons. Iran denies the claim, saying it only provides moral support to the group.

Israeli leaders said their campaign was a response to almost daily rocket and mortar fire by Gaza militants that intensified after Hamas ended a six-month ceasefire a week ago.

Keep an eye on Hezbollah. Once Israel fully commits to Gaza, it's very likely rockets, and now longer range missiles will begin coming in from Lebanon.

This was clearly an attempt to lure Israel in by Hamas. But I do have compassion for the civilians caught in the middle.

There's another aspect of this though, which could bring about some sort of solution to the continuing cycle of violence:

PA 'ready' to take Gaza if Hamas ousted

Palestinian Authority officials in Ramallah said Saturday that they were prepared to assume control over the Gaza Strip if Israel succeeds in overthrowing the Hamas government.

Another PA official said Fatah had instructed all its members in the Gaza Strip to be prepared for the possibility of returning to power.

"We have enough men in the Gaza Strip who are ready to fill the vacuum," he said. "But of course all this depends on whether Israel manages to get rid of the Hamas regime."

The two officials voiced hope that the current IDF operation would end Hamas rule in Gaza. They said that the PA was also prepared to dispatch security forces from the West Bank to replace the Hamas militiamen.

However, they denied Hamas allegations that the PA had urged Israel to launch a massive attack to overthrow the Hamas government.

Also Saturday, Fatah called on its supporters in the Strip to storm Hamas-controlled prisons to release Fatah detainees. The call came as most of Hamas's security installations were demolished by IAF planes.

Fatah representatives in the West Bank said that Hamas was holding more than 250 Fatah men in its various prisons throughout the Gaza Strip. They expressed fear that Hamas would use the detainees as human shields against the Israeli air strikes.

Sometimes people must pay a high price to motivate them into doing the right thing.

The right thing being to deny these murderers the use of their country and neigborhoods, to launch terrorism.

There is something deeply disturbing about any individual that would hope for the destruction of millions of other human beings.

There is something deeply disturbing about any individual that would hope for the destruction of millions of other human beings. Not in the evil way that you insinuate...My seemingly murderous rant is actually nothing more than a strategy to prevent the death of innocent victims of terrorism.Sometimes people must pay a high price to motivate them into doing the right thing.

The right thing being to deny these murderers the use of their country and neigborhoods, to launch terrorism.Albert Einstein tells us that suffering is not caused by those who do evil, but by those who stand by and do nothing, which is exactly what these people do.

I thought Israel withdrew its troops from GAZA last year in exchange for HAMAS to cease its missle attacks on southern Israel .

Ever since Israel withdrew the missle attacks have not stopped .

Israel's reply to the collateral damage of "innocent Palestinian citizens should go something like this.

Dear Innocent Palestinian Citizen:

It is with a heavy heart that we must take such actions that results in the death of you and your children however your leaders have given us no choice as they have continually violated our cease fire agreement by launching missles into our country and killing our innocents.

Additionally, they continue to dispatch suicide bombers to our cafes and market places and the time has come for these actions by your leaders to stop.

Your leaders have shown a total disregard for you and your families by establishing military targets in your homes and amongst your neighborhoods. In the past we have not attacked these targets as we knew it would result in the deaths of innocent civilians. We can no longer ignore these military targets nor will we.

As of this date you are being put on notice that we will attack ALL military targets in the Gaza Strip. We suggest you move out of your home or neighborhood where these military targets are concentrated or you, the citizens, rise up and throw them out. If you remain then you remain at your own peril and we can only assume you concur with Hamas' activities and therefore you have elected to side with our enemy and you shall be treated as our enemy as well.

Just remember, your house may be our next target. Have a nice day.

There's something deeply disturbing about individuals and states that develop and support a Machiavellian philosophy that the ends justify the means especially when it comes to the slaughter of innocents. Even the mafia does not touch the innocent families. Two wrongs never make a right.

Two wrongs never make a right. So in other words, you are saying the Israeli's should stand by and do nothing, while their "innocents" are being slaughtered?

Hmmm?.....For some reason I don't think your plan would solve the problem.

The liberal strategy of sucking the enemy's cock, has always been a failure.

Yeah Hawg.....and the policy of an eye for an eye has been such a success for the past several thousand years. And no....I am not saying that Israel should stand by and do nothing.

Could be - acting by proxy is a central tenet of the middleeast art of war.

It does look like the attack on Iran your side was hoping for is on the backburner for the moment.

Lets see if Israel can starve and bomb the palestinians into passivity.

If they removed Hamas, Abbas would fill the void; with a real chance for peace with the Palestinians, IMO.
