View Full Version : Should Lieberman Keep His Committee Appointments?
Lieberman is not your typical sort of party politician. I don't agree with his stance on the war or his comments on Obama but I don't see anything wrong with him supporting McCain. Thumbing chests during the Georgia conflict was disgusting but so be it.
Reid I'm sure wants to toss him out of those profitable Senate committees for it.
Is it called for?
How would McConnell handle something like this if the show was on the other foot?
Would the other side have demoted an equivalent member for a similar offense?
I think they would have, but I'm not sure. The Bush admin and Justice seemed pretty obsessed with attacking demoting and removing anyone that didn't pass various loyalty tests.

I actually did for 2 days then Seedy started right back in on his 100% partisan comments. I just think few statements sum up the hateful mindset of the sheep then his comment there.
If he keeps it up I will capricously ban him.
Thanks man.

I find it a little scary that politicians can't speak their mind, even if it flies in the face of what their party wants, even if I don't agree with it, there's a slippery slope when you start punishing people for not following what the "party wants"

Read his comments, they're very much different then not doing what the party wants. They border on slanderous and were designed to divide the nation and terrorize the public that he swore to protect. However, since that's become common place since 2001 I guess it's the norm.
I don't think he should be removed but there certainly are reasons to do it.

He went way beyond not following party "wants". He spoke at the freaking Republican Convention. He campaigned with Palin for down ballot tickets! If it was the wartime military he would be shot as a traiitor.

The so called payback will either lead to promises of Dem support by Lieberman or it all about positioning someone new in the committees. They should go easy on the man, he has a right to support and vote at will. Lieberman needs to rejoin the party, I think he has to negociate the nomination rights from the loser.

I've heard this traitor line used a few times and I think it's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Americans need to wake up to the fact that a politicians first loyalty belongs to America, not their political party.
The voters that elected him into office will determine his status based on his actions, but he is not a traitor. I don't want politicians that have more allegiance to their political party then they do to their own beliefs. Whether I agree with him or not, isn't the issue, because I didn't support McCain, but Lieberman had his own take on it, thought McCain was the better choice, and I'm willing to let men act like men and think on their own.
boohoo, he went against what his party wants...if that's traitorous then we need more traitors because America is being crushed under the weight of mindless party politics.

This guy is big on metaphors and cynism towards those who break from the party control mechanisms. Fact is Lieberman has the same freedom as every other American, wishing him dead is foolish and irresponsible. Lieberman exercised his right to free speech and freedom of choice. I've seen many Dems condem others whom they disagree with, the hate runs wide and deep, even worse they rarely forgive and forget!!

blue, the man caucased with the Democrats, I have no problem with him changing party loyalties. Just don't be a sleazebag about it, Lieberman is a sleaze bag. He should have officially changed parties, but like a true DC fuckwad he wanted to have it both ways.
you a sports fan? what he did was the same as quarterback changing teams midgame, but not changing uniforms, and throwing interceptions for the rest of the game. you may think that honorable. I think it smacks of selfishness and stupidity.

The problem with your sports analogy is that the Republicans and Democrats are on different teams. They are on the same team, they serve the people, and it shouldn't be "us" vs. "them" that's the screwed logic that's completely destroying America.

they are on different teams, otherwise Obama and mccain would be joint presidents.
What's destroyed this country is right wing hate talk radio and its minions of followers. If you want to blame anyone, blame them. they couldn't get over that bush lost in '92 and did everything in their power to destroy clinton. If anyone is to blame for the current divisiveness, it is them and their republican counterparts in congress.

You can't see that you called a man a traitor, something I only reserve for serious offenses, just because he went against his political party? Hate is abundant, the right wing has it, and so does the left.
I may not agree with Lieberman, but at the same time what kind of message does that send to other Democrats? You either are with us or against us. I rather have my politicians think for themselves not some part of a collective intellect that doesn't allow dissension.
Just like I absolutely hated the fact that McCain, who used to rub the Republicans the wrong way, decided to become a party player...it really is too bad.
