Trouble with Iran brewing: Check

Energy crisis: Check

Smiling, cheerful national newcomer Democrat elected as president: Check


Career Washington insider elected as vice-president: Check

Russians/Soviets feeling belligerent and expansionistic: Check

Man, we are so screwed...

Carter wasn't a newcomer, he had been a state senator and Governor of Georgia by the time he ran for President. By your reasoning, this made him more experienced than George W. Bush.

Also, the energy crisis was in '79.
