His roots are amazingly international.
Indonesia, Kenya, Hawaii, Chicago.
President for a globe?
The sheer gravity, scope & mind boggling detail seem too much to even manage.
I suppose a sketch artist who outlines the general lay of things to best effect & with others who ferret out the finer & finer details sounds like the best paradigm.
I can't even imagine,
the job you can never run away from.
if i cared i would feel sorry for him.
The modern world is something you can't run away from like you could in earlier centuries. There used to always be some vast, forbidding land or seascape to escape into & try to set up shop in.
Now it seems like a naked, exposed dust fleck.
It is almost too accessible.
The vast & mysterious, becomes the small & banal.

Many independent analyzers have looked at OBama's tax plan and have said otherwise.
No one who doesn't work is going to be getting a handout under this president any more than they did under Bush. Do the homework Cupcake and stop drinking the Koolaide.

Pertaining to BO's no new taxes plan..... you'll be eating those words pay check to paycheck. Some economists want BO to tax 401k retirement accounts, a crazy idea, but we all know dems/Clinton created taxes on SSI checks and unemployment compensation........aka Indian Giver taxes. We can't trust this man to know when enough is enough.
http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/10/23/would-obama-dems-kill-401k-plans.html
House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans.
In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since "the savings rate isn't going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that's not generating what we now say it should."

401k's are already taxed, they are just tax deferred. If they tax them up front, then they won't tax them on the back end. Kind of like life insurance.

Well it depends on whose adivce BO takes. Taxing 401k's yearly is a bad idea. Taxing upon withdrawal is not good either but it is common practice since Clinton passed the law. To fund BO's plan will require creative tax ideas, taxing the rich will not pay for 80% of BO's plans. The poor and middle class will see tax increases that take back some of the tax cuts. Give a little, take some back quietly.

It was the damned kids with the sports cars, washing then in the complex; instead of going to the car wash. So all our rents went up, because of selfish inconsiderate kids.

True conservatives despise neocons (as you call them).
We consider them the elite, out of touch with the grassroots. They make us all look bad, just because we agree on some basic principles. They've taken things to the extreme and abused our trust.
But that doesn't excuse the elite on the Democrat side, for doing the same thing to their people.
It really isn't about the rich and poor, or the liberals and conservatives. It's about the elite jerking around the grassroots, most of which are generally moderate; forcing us into having to take sides with them, just because they (claim to) share the same basic principles.
If you took the average person on this board, you'd find liberals who have conservative views on some things and conservatives who have some liberal views on some things.
You know how conservative I am, right?
Well, I'm sorry San Francisco wasn't able to legalize prostitution - but I'm overjoyed that Massachusetts decriminalized marijuana. As an example.

I can't agree on that. It depends on the individual.
Look at those individuals who give back to the people.
Bill Gates has donated huge amounts, in some cases entire computer networks for school systems.
Oprah gives vast amounts to helping others.
And a vast majority of the rich have invested in ways that have grown the standard of living; and employ everybody else who isn't, in one way or another.
To despise the rich, just because they're rich, is the antithesis of the American Dream. To aspire to a higher standard of living through our own efforts and inspiration.
Would you hate the inventors of the microwave oven and Play Station, just because they made money from creating something you now have to either make life easier, or enjoy using?
It all depends on the indivual person or corporation; and what they've gone through to get where they are, and what they do once they get there.
Now that's the private sector. Politicians and their benefactors are a different story. Many have gone counter to what the founding fathers intended.

I have faith that he will be the greatest President in my lifetime. I suppose that title was previously shared by Ronald Reagan and John Kennedy. I have never felt better about a president elect in my life.
Then again, I considered George Bush's State of the Union address following 9/11 as extremely motivational oratory. Perhaps the best I have ever heard.
I was 100% behind George Bush following 9/11. I am 100% behind Barak Obama now. I voted for both as well.

smurf, it depends on how they made their money. And this country's history is not just the immigrant one. As stirring and enobling as it is. It is also the history of the exploitation of the poor, of the corruption of our gov't, of a class of privileged few dominating the political and economic landscape of this nation. One history does not negate another. all our valid.
