There is a difference. John Edwards could afford his haircut as he earned it. Sarah Palin is using campaign money for clothes, something that McCain was against just a short time ago.
That's because the corporate masters of these right wing lapdogs TOLD them to bark at the haircut paid for by the man's own personal money.
But haven't told them to bark about 'soccer mom' clothes that cost 150K paod for by political donations, out of their own pockets.
Lapdoggies have no orders, so they can't fake the outrage.

I have a nice ward robe :) I earned the money and I give $ to charity. I sure don't need the government taking my hard earned $ and giving it to the lazy, sucker fish of society. You have all missed the point - it doesnt matter what happens to the clothes afterwards - its illegal to do it in the first place as written in a new law called the McCain-Feinway Law or Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, passed in 2002. It is against the law to use contributions for clothing for the candidates - period.
All the other stuff like the use of family members as workers yadadada - is legal.

I did see the Fauxnews coverage, there were some complaints but for the most part, no big deal.
