"The Democrats know what needs to be done. Again, we're working trying to try push this agenda forward. The other day the oil companies reported the highest profits in the history of the world. I want to take those profits and I want to put them into a strategic energy fund that will begin to fund alternative, smart energy; alternatives and technology that will begin to actually move us toward the direction of independence." -Hillary Clinton

If she really said this, that is freaking scary. The power these politicians crave is never ending.

Kres...right....but until one knows the context, it's hard to make that judgement.

Our tax dollars have subsidized some of this profit...and our repug albatrosses, have given them a free pass to federal lands they drill..noteably in the gulf...and they owe a couple of billion in taxes on the books...so there's a lot of contextual space where that statement could be appopriate as the lawmakers of our country.

I personally am against anyone from the butch bush kerry clinton clinton club of new world order gaining any voice in our government. I'd very much like to clinton, mccain, gulliani, be shatteringly exposed for just what they are...and subsequently go down in a fiery ball...granter their aggregatin of slime doesn't extinguish it prematurely...then we will be forced to banish them to utah...or a different political hell of their choice

I would like to see a winning ticket of Richardson/Edwards, in whatever order takes the oval office. This combo will be the best for our America.

So if my local government issues me a business license, they have the right to seize as much of my profit as they see fit.

If government doesn't like the breaks they give to the oil company, then take them away, don't start seizing profit from a companies.

Not to mention the cost will be passed on to the consumers.

Its just a scary though that politicians think they own the profits of companies.

Edit: Also big government lovers like Richardson and Edwards are not going to be good for America, more of the same old crap.

This is another step toward increasing government dependence as well. People who actually try to invest for their retirement (or college savings, or health savings) are now possibly going to have their dollars hit by government seizing profits from companies they are invested in.

I think you misinterpreted Hillary's remarks. When she said
"take those profits and put them into a strategic energy fund,"
she wasn't talking about "SEIZING" profits. She was talking
about "TAXING" them.

through a Libertarian filter, it will inevitably distort your view
of reality. I know from personal experience.

I was a Libertarian for many years, but Reagan and Bush
cured me of that. Libertarian "small government" sounds
great in theory, but it's fantasyland.

Sorry to burst your Libertarian bubble. http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/2029/avatar2427yu0.gif

Not busting it at all. I am fine with my beliefs. I don't believe you take away people's freedoms for what some corrupt politician thinks is in our best interest. Nothing is going to change that. Certainly nothing is going to make me think we should have a huge unconstitutional federal government like we do now.

Corporations don't pay taxes, so I don't know how she is going to tax oil companies. I am pretty sure she said she was going to take that profit.

Also taxing is seizing. It's semantics I guess though.

Regardless of how you slice it her comments frighten me to actually make me consider for 2.5 seconds for voting for a Republican. I eventually came to my senses though.
