Sometimes I feel like SmurfHerder is the only republican on this board that can actually carry on a coversation and has intelligent thoughts. I mean I dont' really ever agree with him. But I can respect his opinion at least.

Hog Trash, HD mainly and a few others I'm sure I'm not thinking of right now. They are amazingly racist, and claim not to be. They respond emotionally to almost every single post and claim they are logical. They spout neo-con propoganda all day long, HT claims to be Independent, and HD is as worn out, tired angry old man as you can get.

I'm jsut curious as to how in the world these people became so ignorant. What about their personalities actually fostered this complete irrational hate of half the country.

Does anyoen know people like this in real life? Can you give any insite into this from personal experience?

Honestly, most of the Republicans I know are like Smurfherder, I may disagree with him, but at least there can be a decent back and forth.

I'm thinking this is an internet phenomena more than anything else...people can let loose a little more with outrageous thoughts that they might not say in public or hell for that matter might not even believe, but wants to get a rise out of people.

Ignorance exists to a much higher degree today in the US because of a range of issues - you can see it pretty plainly in the US Army advertisements on the TV where they appeal to the "RPG game player" mentality trying to con younger Americans into thinking they would be able to play the games "real-life"
This ignorance has been pushed on the American people since the early 1970s by news organizations and media producers, who have learned that the easiest way to sell commercial ad space is to appeal to the lowest common denominator - many other businesses picked up on that and gave birth to things like Walmarts' popularity, and gave the political partys the easy path to idiocracy (which BTW is a good movie example of exactly what has happened to this country).

I think it was Buckley and Vidal that always said it best when they looked at both sides and realized that education (or the lack of it in the US for the last 40 years) was the underpinning of the downfall of a great country.

Ignorance can be forgiven - however you also have to realize that you are dealing with ignorant people when you make arguments - and that their replies will always be a programmed answer - never a thought out idea or original thought.

Keep in the back of your mind that they are part of the approximately 25% of this country who really fear other people and have no idea that they have responded to terrorism exactly the way terrorists intended - living in fear.
Fortunately there are the others in this country who understand that being patriotic means not responding to terrorism with fear and giving up your liberties - seems a very wise man 200 years ago said something very similar and these fearful people just havent figured out the legacy they will leave - yet.

I also consider myself more as being "Politicaly Incorrect", rather than "racist" although I do believe I am somewhat prejudice, as is most people of all races.
