Does this strike anyone as a bit hysterical?
Can anyone explain what kind of circumstances under which this would make any logical sense?
People were paying a premium just to buy US bonds,
in other words they were not getting interest, they were paying the government interest to park their money in US bonds.
Illustrating the general concern was the fact that at one stage
US treasuries were trading at a negative yield;
in other words people were paying the US Government to take their money in return for the security of government paper.http://business.theage.com.au/business/to-cure-greed-disease-apply-more-money-20080919-4kal.html?page=3
