I have an aquaintence who I see daily who is alcoholic.
I have known he drives while drinking for years and always been uncomfortable. He seems to drive cautiously but alway, I mean always has a bottle open in the car.
A few weeks ago he had his grandkids in the car a 6 year olds and an 8 year old and his beer.
He is always friendly to me and always seems in control but drinks a case of beer daily(I know this for a fact).
I feel chicken for not doing anything like dropping a dime. But also feel betraying a trust is a hard thing to live with.
I believe I know what most will say but for me I need to rationalize what I see as a dilmena in my mind.

The only dilema you need to face is the one when you hear he was drink-driving and had not only killed members of his own family but those of someone elses and that even though you had thought this might happen, you did nothing about it!
If you can live with that, then there is no dilema!

How would you feel if he went out while drunk and got in an accident and killed or mamed his family or someone else? Maybe time for rationalizing the whole thing is over. He must be doing this regulary, so my guess would be to have at least a talk with him. Or report him to the cops the minute he goes driving with beer in his car and or drunk. Better to lose a friend than to have that friend harm himself or kill and harm others. How can you in good conscience let an opportunity pass without doing something?
