Management...who is giving out the stars....and mostly, why?

If you have a system that works, it beooves management to adhere to the rules until and unless they are prooved wrong or inhibitive.

To stand by and watch the crumbling of even something non structural like these stars...whose sole function is to alert skimmers to an important or excellent post, loose thier function from sloppy or overactive use, is antithetical to what describes management. IMO

I have no idea how the stars are generated. I think it has something to do with the number of reads in a period of time.

People pay attention to those stars?

Automatic - we sure as hell don't assign them.

Members who read the thread give out the stars. Just click on the "rate thread" box at the top of the thread and you can rate it. I just rated this 5 stars.

Bardi...don't you think that putting five stars on this post destroys the meaning of stars...not to mention the hipocrisy of placing them on this post?

Yes, I agree with you. The stars are sort of irrelevant and meaningless if you ask me. I know of one poster who always marks the threads he starts with 5 stars. I look at them as nothing more than a different type of smiley.

Do people actually pay any attention to the stars? I never do. I look to see who the author of the thread is.

Lady Mod...I believe stars are utilitarian in locating wheat amongst the chaff, as they were designed to supply, and also, they might serve as group vote for excellence...which might give visual carrots for those who stop to think a bit before reguritating in print.

As the stars are being abused at this moment...I find them useless for any purpose other than crowding the page with obstructive garbage...truely not their designed purpose.
