I AM TheStripey1, peace tiger. I'm a recovering republican and a Viet Nam vet. Although I lean left on some issues, I am NOT a liberal and altho I lean right on other issues, I am NOT a conservative. I consider myself to be a centrist and my political party unafilliated independant. But since I am staunchly anti-bush, you will find me swinging from the left side of center more often than not.
Looks around... uhhhhh, is this a righty board? a lefty board? or a combo of both?
Anyway, I have lots of hot button issues that interest me so I imagine that I'll be making your acquaintence on the forums soon...

Welcome stripey. I to am an old Jarhead VN vet 71-72.
I think my country gotta little off track
It tookum 25 years to welcome me back
But I gotta little limp now when I walk
And I gotta little tremble when I talk
But I finally found out who I am
I'm a walkin talkin miricle from Viet Nam
I have seen the tiger smile
And spit in a bamboo vipers eye
And every nite now when I dream
I hear the men and the monkeys in the jungle scream

If you wanna find out where I stand check out my last post "WHO'S SMARTER ? LEFT OR RIGHT"..... Later Bro.

thanks... that was why I made him look like he does... he epitomizes how I feel about all of those folks that still support bush and his failed policies and for all those that support McSame...
now that I've figured out my password problem here, hopefully I'll be able to make my views known... I'm VERY opinionated... as you will soon see...
I've been a forum warrior for a tad over 5 years... and I have probably been on 5 dozen boards cuz I like moving about the internets meeting folks and discussing politics... and posted 25,000+ posts on them.. cuz, basically, I'm a wordy SOB...
so many boards, so little time...
But I do take time off from the boards from time to time to play online poker... for chips since the republican controlled Congress made it illegal for us adults to send their money to Offshore Casinos just before they lost power in 2006... they couldn't stop illegals from sending their billions back home but they could stop us responsible american citizens from having some fun...
go figure...
OBTW... I like Omaha Hi/Lo tournaments and when I play, I play at PokerStars.com... as TheStripey1... :) only there, I wear this avatar...

a lot less menacing... a lot less meaner... a hell of a lot less opinionated... laffs...

Air Force here HW... enlisted in '66 to stay out of Viet Nam and volunteered to go less than a year later... got to Nam in Oct '67 and was assigned to Tan Son Nhut AB where I worked on the flight line... TSN had a base commander who must have thought Saigon was in the states cuz he had all the sand bags removed from around the base of the barracks and had flowers planted there instead... all of our weapons were locked up and the rules he had in place... omg...
Those rules are what caused me to volunteer for temporary duty at one of the outpost air fields... cuz that was here the action was and that was where our chickenshit commander wasn't...
I was sent to Lai Khe 2 weeks before Tet... I have to tell you, the time I spent there was the safest I felt during my entire tour of duty. I was surrounded by the Big Red One...
But I got my action... lots of it... though it was mostly just incoming mortars and rockets as we air force types usually stayed on the safe side of the wire...
we were smart... we let our officers do the fighting... :lmao2:
Welcome Home, Brother...

OBTW... have you had your agent orange protocol testing yet? I am in the middle of mine... signed up with the VA late last year... and they've been administering tests on me ever since... they're thorough... very thorough... nice knowledgeable folks, too... results? so far so good...
I just initiated my first PTSD counseling sessions, too... when I signed up with the VA, they gave me an advice book and while reading through it, I came across the symptoms for PTSD and was surprized to find me in several of them... I had always thought that because I had not been exposed to the horrors of war the army and marines had been, that I couldn't possibly have it...
I was wrong...
I now know everyone who has been to war has it... :disbelief:
or will...
it's only a matter of time...

Not yet and the clock is ticking. I'm a notorious procrastinator. I have been minimaly exposed but still need to take care of it. Things calmed down quite a bit in the early 70's. We were mostly on the defensive side of the ball. Cant complain. I still got all my body parts and an exceptable amount of brain cells are still intact. It does leave its scars, most you cant see. First few years home was the tuffist. I'm chuggin right along now bro.
