Sen. Kennedy rushed to the hospital
Posted: 11:37 AM ET

From CNN Chief National Correspondent John King

(CNN) — Sen. Edward Kennedy was transferred to Massachusetts General
Hospital on Saturday after spending less than an hour in the Cape Cod Hospital emergency room, a spokesman for the Cape Cod facility told CNN.

David Reilly said Kennedy was admitted to their emergency room around 9
a.m. ET.

A well-informed, prominent Democratic source in Massachusetts told CNN that the 76-year-old senator seemed to have "symptoms of a stroke."

Massachusetts General in Boston would not confirm or deny whether Kennedy was there.

An anchor of the Democratic party, Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate since 1962. He is one of only six senators in U.S. history to serve more than 40 years.

In October, Kennedy underwent surgery to remove a blockage in his left carotid artery. Kennedy's office said the blockage was discovered "as part of a routine evaluation of Senator Kennedy's back and spine."

"MRI studies picked up an unrelated, asymptotic blockage in the senator's left carotid artery," the office said in a written statement. It described the procedures as "preventive surgery."

Doctors said they performed a carotid endarterectomy, which involves making a cut in the neck and pulling plaque out of the artery.

There probably isn't a senator I disagree with more than Ted Kennedy, but politics goes out the window in times like this.

My heart goes out to his family. I hope he will make a quick recovery and will be ok soon.

Yeah, I feel bad for him and the family. All politics aside, I hate to see anybody go through that.

I heard on TV he had two seizures; but was well enough to make a phone call to cancel his appearance at a dinner.

He didn't look healthy! Big, red face, always appeared to be angry. Maybe he'll be better in a day or two.

I feel for him and his family. Having a husband who is disabled from a stroke, I hope things will go better for Mr. Kennedy.

I feel really bad for him. It turns out he has an inoperable brain tumor; and might not be around much longer. The odds are against him.

"About 10,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with malignant gliomas, the kind of tumor that Sen. Edward Kennedy is fighting, according to the National Cancer Institute. Only about half are alive a year after being diagnosed, and only about 25 percent survive two years, said Robert Laureno, chief of neurology at the Washington Hospital Center. "In general, it's a very grim kind of prognosis," he said.

A key question is exactly which kind of malignant glioma Kennedy has -- anaplastic astrocytoma or glioblastoma multiforme, said Lynne Taylor of the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Those with anaplastic astrocytoma have a better prognosis; they survive about three years on average. But in neither case is the tumor curable."

Cancer - the great fear.

And brain cancer is one of the worst and most frightening.

Massachusetts will need a new senator fairly soon.

I wonder what the new guy will be like.

I also wonder if Kennedy will stay in office until the end; and just have others vote for him on Senate votes, as a proxy.

Sharon, :) Um deary, unless I am misunderstanding your response to Bill's post... You appear to be just repeating his opinion with reguards to the senator's health.

Just curious, an oversight in missing his word "never"???

Or just maybe just reinforcemant???
