As people have told me in the past, religion and politics are usually two topics to avoid discussing with those whom you wish to remain civil. What other subjects/topics also garner the same reaction/results?

In addition, there are those things in life which I find bring people together such as music. What other things bind humanity together? Natural disasters I find bond people together in a common cause.

I find it astounding that more of us devote time to those things which divide us rather than those which bind us together as part of humanity.

As a writer/composer, I am constantly studying people and the effects various scenarios yield varying results. Perhaps reality has something to do with the escalating frustration levels people are experiencing in the world today. Reality does that much of the time. I find that music helps to alleviate the anxiety and frustration.

One of the most recent observation I've noted is the impact many songwriters and musical groups have on "fans". Those who adulate and/or eventually emulate if given the chance. In an emotionally starved and torn world, music somehow reaches people that identify with the emotion and words expressed in music. I find it fascinating really.

I just thought I would share this with anyone who gives a damn and would like to add their experiences and observations to this little diatribe. ;)

Why should unity be favored over disunity?

Each are positive traits under varying conditions.
Probably both best in some sort of balance.

If we were all calm & peaceful we might just all fall asleep & then the species would shortly die.

Unity gives coherent structure,
but it is the forces of disunity that give it animation & change.

I hope you don't want to live in a universe where time has ceased to pass,
Where a single rigid, suffocated, static instant without change is where we are frozen.

I understand in the chaos & tumult of the mind the impulse is towards the calming effect of unity of singular coherence,
but if you think about it logically this is probably not what you want for absolutely everything.

That said,
exploring & analyzing what assists unity & disunity probably would be a very interesting & likely productive area of inquiry.

If there were no disunity we would certainly have to invent it.

Well, change is the only constant. And humans are always competing, and there has never been and probably never will be a truly be an equal society.

The union of unity and disunity is the entire " sample" space. The space in which you choose to define what is the sample. The idea of unity or disunity is a human invention like good and bad or right and wrong. It has no meaning outside the human neural networks that produce it. It is possible that no things in the universe are independent, that the set of independent events is empty.
