Supposedly they sold better in russia than all three "Rings" movies combined. Based I think on some russian graphic novel type thing.
Clever film-making. It's the standard good vs evil occult adventure story, but it has a texture you just don't get in american movies. The 'morality tale' aspects of it, while still there, didn't overwhelm the stories.
It was better to watch it in russian with the subtitles - you really get a feel for the russian language and culture.
I mean, on the one hand they're standard or even substandard schlock, but, if you like that kind of movie, you'll enjoy these. (I guess they've been out for a while, but I only saw a bit of adverting for them, and that was pretty recently).
