View Full Version : the "WAR ON KIDS" - this will solve all our problems
This story is so fucked up I'm not really sure what to say about it.
When Ricky was 16, he went to a teen club and met a girl named Amanda, who said she was the same age. They hit it off and were eventually having sex. At the time Ricky thought it was a pretty normal high school romance.
Two years later, Ricky is a registered sex offender, and his life is destroyed.
Amanda turned out to be 13. Ricky was arrested, tried as an adult, and pleaded guilty to the charge of lascivious acts with a child, which is a class D felony in Iowa. It is not disputed that the sex was consensual, but intercourse with a 13-year-old is illegal in Iowa.
Ricky was sentenced to two years probation and 10 years on the Iowa online sex offender registry. Ricky and his family have since moved to Oklahoma, where he will remain on the state’s public registry for life.
Being labeled a sex offender has completely changed Ricky’s life, leading him to be kicked out of high school, thrown out of parks, taunted by neighbors, harassed by strangers, and unable to live within 2,000 feet of a school, day-care center or park. He is prohibited from going to the movies or mall with friends because it would require crossing state borders, which he cannot do without permission from his probation officer. One of Ricky’s neighbors called the cops on him, yelled and cursed at him, and videotaped him every time he stepped outside, Ricky said.
“It affects you in every way,” he said. “You’re scared to go out places. You’re on the Internet, so everybody sees your picture.”
His mother, Mary, said the entire family has felt the ramifications of Ricky being labeled a sex offender. His younger brother has been ridiculed at school and cannot have friends over to the house; his stepfather has been harassed; the parents’ marriage has been under tremendous pressure; and strangers used to show up at their door to badger the family. One neighbor came to the house and told Mary he wasn’t going to leave them alone until they took their “child rapist” away, so they moved, she said.
Our politicians love draconian laws and sound-byte answers. "WAR ON ...". Taking the power to discriminate and make wise choices away from judges.
A few heinous, high-profile sex crimes capture the media’s attention, and the result is more Draconian sex-offender laws, such as Megan’s Law and Jessica’s Law, said Sarah Tofte of Human Rights Watch, which recently released a report on sex-offender laws called “No Easy Answers: Sex Offender Laws in the U.S.”
“We have created these laws and we apply them to anyone convicted of a sex crime regardless of their risk to the community,” Tofte said.
Megan’s Law requires public registration for adult sex offenders. If Jessica’s Law,
approved by voters in 2006, overcomes challenges in court, it would prohibit adult registered sex offenders from living 2,000 feet within a school or park and require those paroled from prison to wear lifetime GPS monitors.

We should all follow the law of the land without question. No exceptions at all.
Well.... unless you're a large and profitable telco and then it's OK.

That is a sad case. But I have no problems with making the lives of true sex offenders a daily hell. If a child is involved it should be one strike and you never see the light of day again. Draconian? Yes, and I don't have a problem with that. If it was your child that was raped for three days and then buried alive you might feel like I.

Lots of stories like this. Guys taking a leak in the woods are sex offenders for life becuase some kid saw them.
Being tough on "child predators" is something almost everyone can agree on, especially if they don't see the consequences. The politcians love it. If people are dangerous they should be in jail, not one some list.

Here's one from my neck of the woods, it's an old one but still relevant. Guy is in a bar drinking, (18 legal age at that time), he picks up a little cutie and after a few more drinks they wind up in his back seat on a dirt road. Rural area. When the sheriff knocks on the window, he figures he's in trouble for parking. When the girl says she is 14, he knows he is fucked.
Fellas, always ask for proof of age. As cute as she may be, as willing as she may be, it's not worth 10-15 years.

Personal Responsibility always plays a key. I remember when I was younger no matter how drunk I was, I always asked for valid in state ID before hand.

There should be at least some mitigation if the age difference is less than 6 years apart.

I agree, if the children, and at 16 he is still a child, are close enough in age and the sex was consensual, it shouldn't be a "sex crime". But the whole point of age of consent is that children aren't legally and emotionally ready to make that decision. That is the truth. And what if both were 10 or younger? It has happened and will happen again.

Blame game is as easy as forgetting what day by day life was like looking back on it...but speaking for the male in this story, the big questions was never one of age, but of access.
I am from a different time, but I was so ready for action that I had the flip side of the age thing on more than a few occaisions...there was no harm in it...in fact, it proved a memorable learnng experience.
I can't possibly supply reason for the girl's choice to enter...although I assume it wasn't harmful to her either...as memory serves.
The real harm is brought to these kids by us "adults". I can't begin to comprehend what goes on in the minds of these "chaste" individules who make laws to prosecute these children.
Their massive hatred towards these youngsters is incomprehensible. I admit to the probable psychopaths embedded in our crossectional numbers, but how and why do supposedly "normal" people support them?
I know the rational that proports the sacrifice of the one to ward off the many...but how did we as a culture become so callouse...so heartless?
Personally, I blame it on xians in government and politics...but is could be the efforts of any closed-minded groupings equally well.
It is the xian propaganda that restricts this population from becoming mentally and emotionally adult.
It does not take a genius to note that notable in EVERY walk of life break sex norms...not so flagrently as the jesus freaks and their habitual acts of child molestation.
Playing beyond the norms of preferred sexual activity is constantly with and among us...why can't we adjust our responses to at least be as humane as we demand of our "transgressors"?
In the relhm of general existance, we, the people, are singular in our deformed demands for what we consider normal and acceptable sexual behavior...and these kids are in synch with normality.
Our problems with sexual expression are engendered by property rights. This plays out in the husband's right to solely be responsible to support only children who carry his seed (so to speak), and thereby are in direct line to inherit the wealth and power of that sire.
Birth control pills blew that argument out the window and it became something less reasonably defended, but acceptable to all the husbands involved...which is...all husbands existant...namely, the husband's sex rights.
So for social sexual maturity to evolve, I would guess that the construct of marriage must first be disolved as a legal condition.
I dont for a minute believe that couples would stop co-habiting, only that they would do so by continual choice, while making their own arrangements for dividing responsibility for their duration.
This new deconstruct would neccessitate a communal responsibility for all and every child in that community as the mainstay residence for children and their education...individual choices of abodes would be normal and easly accomodated if up to standards.
I can't envision any other way for sexual equality and freedom of sexual expression to exist, as marriage in the form it exists, is not designed for diplomacy...regardless of who makes the most money...the framework is not balanced, as it was designed around the male's functions of hunting and gathering and to protect from the continual attack of enemies...none of which remain, except in division of labor in the household.

We want it to be simplified for our ease of mind,
reality does not accommodate us thusly.
But in our laziness & ineptitude we use the bludgeon against those who's transgressions are minor.
Face it, we like being vindictive,
we get off on it,
If we can claim it is religious edict, that makes it an even easier prevarication.
Perhaps simplicity is the great deceiver.

Harry just needs a hug
To make a remark like that out of the blue shows that he is obviously struggling with self-loathing and needs to project
Harry is already hurting and probably has been for a long time
It's actually a disease

I blame the parents
To a point I agree with you. They met in a teen club. Why are the parents of the little girl held responsible for the welfare of their child?
It's not that hard to remain aware of your kids behavior and friends. I raised 3 girls, it was a challenge at times but I managed and I did it alone.
She was 13 for crying out loud. Hello! Mom and Dad, you dropped the ball and then got pissed off and filed charges against the boy. Shame on these two parents.
