As recently as 1972 the highest position an African-American could aspire to in a Nevada casino was that of porter. Unlike their white fellow workers, African-Americans were encouraged to return to North Las Vegas immediately upon ending their shift. More recently, 2000 IIRC, an African-American District Judge was profiled as a criminal in the Courthouse and slammed against a wall prior to be asked even one question.
Given Nevada's sorry history is it any wonder Clinton won by playing women against men and winning women by a rate of 2 to 1 and Latinos against African-Americans and winning Latinos at the rate of 3 to 1.
White folk in denial about their own racism & sexism will no doubt be in double denial that racism exists in the Latino & African-American communities as well. IF not, are the denyers suggesting that white folk generally are beyond racism & sexism while those minority communities are not?
I tip my hat to the Clintons. They are brilliant politicians. Perhaps the absolute best in America today. Maybe though, after Nevada, American voters will realize how the worst in us played like a violin.
