Just caught a radio report suggesting record turnout in NH. Many polling stations are requesting additional ballots. And from exit polling it appears independents are breaking Democrat overwhelmingly.

If 65% or more independents vote Democrat, McCain may not have enough support to beat Romney. Romney leads McCain among Republicans. The polls measuring Romney/McCain going into today's vote are a statistical tie.

This is one fascinating primary.

My heart fairly "bleeds" for him.

G'day Ladymod,

I'd like to see McCain survive and then lose in Florida or on the 5th of February. If this is a 4 way race through Florida and 2/5/08, Huckabee wins because Romney, Where's Rudy, McCain split the majority non-religious vote.

With Huckabee on top of the ticket Obama could an effective majority in the Senate and possibly the House. Republicans couldn't even filibuster.

I'm wondering if Obama is giving any thought to his choice of VP. Somebody who knows how to get legislation through Congress. Hoyer maybe?

If NH independents are breaking Democrat at a rate above 65%, it confirms my call that America's flirtation with corporate fascism peaked in '04.

Change means throw the bums out. We didn't throw enough of them out in '06.

Or could it be that many are "crossing over" to defeat Hitlary and the Klinton
dynasty? We only have to declare a party here in TN in the primaries and I
will be crossing over to knock Hitlary out.

Im sure there are at least some that will do the same.

I liked McCain in 2000. I liked him until he decided that they only way to get support was to abandoned conservative ideas and go along with the Neoconservatives.

I think he might hold on until then. Maybe only by the "skin of his teeth" but he has enough $$$ to "stay the course" if he wants to.

I'm sure he has. O'Bama and Hoyer, Champions of Change.........has a nice ring doesn't it? :D

No, we didn't so we MUST redeem ourselves in '08. :winkwink:

NH Primary Will Sink or Launch McCain (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hAdMzKbTdRczxaWHiXYN6af15RcwD8U1S60O0)
By LIBBY QUAID – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican John McCain will soar or sink in New Hampshire, his best shot at reviving a presidential campaign that went belly up last summer.

A McCain victory in New Hampshire would be the consummate comeback for a comeback specialist, a survivor who weathered more than five years in a Vietnam POW camp, a wrenching congressional scandal and three bouts with aggressive skin cancer.

For rival Mitt Romney, a McCain resurgence would be a searing loss, another second-place finish for a campaign that had anticipated back-to-back wins in Iowa and New Hampshire and had spent tens of millions of dollars more than other Republicans.

McCain's fate is in the hands of independent voters, who helped McCain win New Hampshire when he ran against George W. Bush in 2000.

But this time, McCain has competition for the independent vote from Democrat Barack Obama, who defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton last week in the Iowa Democratic caucuses. New Hampshire's independents, who at 45 percent represent the biggest share of the electorate, are allowed to vote in either party primary. Polls have shown tremendous support for Obama among independents.

................

I guess his "staying" power will depend on his willingness to believe in the impossible?

Maybe

I read and hear pundits & posters predict that McCain or Romney die today. Not so. Mitt can fight on in Florida as he has the majority of the Jeb Bush gang working for his campaign.

McCain has to win either NH or Michigan but he doesn't have to win both. If McCain goes to South Carolina without at least one win, there's no compelling reason to support him.

If anyone's campaign ends today it will be Fred Thompson and John Edwards. Maybe not officially but for all intent and purpose, each is toast without at least respectable showings. Edwards needs at least 20% and Thompson needs a strong third place finish.

True, South Carolina is Edwards home state and the very powerful Culinary Union endorsed John in Nevada today. Without a strong showing in NH he loses his Iowa momentum. Starting tomorrow it really becomes a national campaign through 02/05. Edwards won't have the money to compete regardless how much Bill gives in matching donations.

Gee, just think of all the disappointed "Fred heads" here when that happens...

Looks like Hillary is getting a lot of support from New Hampshire. They seem to have a lot less hate up there. I also notice that Fred came in last.

Thats right SM, be a bad sport and rub it in!:p

I still love Fred and still think there may be more crossing over than anyone
has taken into consideration. Time will tell. This is far from over.
