View Full Version : Sexual Predators and Our Children

The American Centurians

A couple of weeks ago, U.S. Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) suddenly resigned his position amidst allegations of sexual misconduct towards high school age Congressional pages. He immediately went to a rehab center for alcoholism and mental health. His attorney held a press conference and announced that Foley was sorry about his conduct but wanted everyone to know that he was a homosexual, an alcoholic and the prior child victim of sexual abuse by a priest. Obviously being homosexual or being an alcoholic have nothing to do with preying on children. Former sexual abuse may be another question? The news was both shocking and concerning that a man in such a position of trust in our government could actually have been one of the "predators" he so often campaigned against to protect children.

This week the Catholic priest, who allegedly sexually abused Foley, admitted to it. It was not the priest's admissions but his attitude which was a surprise. Father Anthony Mercieca, who now resides in Malta and supposedly is still an active priest at the age of 72, was a parish priest at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church & School in Lake Worth, Florida where Foley served as an altar boy and attended school as a young teenager. Father Mercieca, who has been a priest for 38 years, stated that he and Foley became close friends and "loved each other as brothers". The priest stated that he and Foley had been naked together in a sauna and there were events which Foley may have interpreted as sexually inappropriate such as the priest massaging Foley while naked, skinny dipping together at a secluded lake and being naked together in the same room overnight. The priest admitted that there may have been some fondling but no actual sex. The priest stated that he had been in drug induced stupors on occaision and was going through a nervous breakdown, and thus, he may not remember all the details of his relationship with Foley. The priest could not understand why Foley was bringing this up some 40 years later and why Foley would want to destroy him ( the priest) at his elderly age. Talk about denial! Let us guess that Foley was not the only person this priest "loved like a brother" in his 38 years in various parishes throughout the world.

This incident happens to be recent. However, the problem occurs everyday as a threat to our children. The predator could be a priest, minister, fireman, doctor, lawyer, policeman, school teacher, little league coach or anyone else you could never imagine. The predators are not people who look like monsters--they look like your neighbors, friends and co-workers. Dateline NBC has highlighted the problem across the nation with it's series on child predators who exist regardless of where you live by communicating with your children over the internet. It is a scary situation for all parents and grandparents who wonder who and what is safe for their children anymore. Years ago you would not hesitate to drop your child off at his local church or encourage him or her to have fun at the upcoming overnight scout trip. Today, it is a different story! It is also a sad story!

Congressman Foley obviously was personally effected by his unfortunate relationship with his parish priest as a young man. Whether it can be the excuse for his current behavior is debatable. The question is how many other people are holding similiar secrets from unfortunate meetings with people we all know and trust (or at least thought we did)? The bigger question is how many of our young people will be subjected to the same in the days and years to come? What can be done about this seemingly out of control situation which threatens our children every day? Too many questions and not many answers!

If nothing else, the Congressman Foley case has again brought this problem to our attention on a nationwide basis. It will be an even bigger disaster if it is ever determined that Congressional leadership was involved in a "cover up" of Foley to preclude embarrassment and serve other political purposes. "Cover ups" are often worst than the offense because it allows the offender to continue hurting others. The Catholic Church is sufferring the consequences of such action today for it's role in numerous priest misconduct. Let us hope that the U.S. Congress will not be following down the same path regarding it's members!

Sexual predators come in all shapes and sizes. They live and work in places and occupations once known to be safe and healthy for our young children and teenagers. Paranoia is not good for us or our children. However, living in a dream world is not good either. Obviously I wish I had the answer or solution to this problem. Unfortunately, I do not!

Lets wakeup America and at least think about it!

He immediately went to a rehab center for alcoholism and mental health.

Id like to see proof of this as I dont believe for a second he is in rehab - he went to Clearwater, Fla which has a bunch of phoney "rehabs" that are just resorts for the Scientology religion

I think most people in the US dont give a shit one way or another as long as its not their kid - and its been painfully obvious that no one is willing to take a real stand against the Catholic church to get it out of this country - of course the real offenders in the Baptist and other Christian churches havent even been taken to task yet as for some stupid reason its harder to out these perverts
As far as "once being known to be safe" - youre dreaming - they havent been safe since around 2000 BC - ever really do a computation to see how many people that are dead/raped/fondled/abused because of religion - its staggering numbers - dont you think that if we just took the religion out of society it would fix about 95% of the problem - after all dont most predators/perverts end up blaming their ills on sins/religion - if you banish religion you would solve most of this

Linkster...I really appreciate that you pulled no punches to include the very concept of organized religion.

This is a very good opening to the problem of organized religion and their deadly effect on the societies they predate upon.

Immediately there comes to support or fight or most likely damn those who question this or that religion or practice, but throughout the eons, this approach never produces anything but anger and war...and not a thing I would want to be a part of here (or anywhere).

What I would support, is a philosophic discussion on the mechanics of all reloigions...the why, how and their effects upon those who become subjugated to them...and especially the motivations behind the design of religions that is universal to all organized belief systems.

Statements of facts (as I see them):

1.) The nuts and bolts of all religion is to identify human acts intrinsic to human behavior and repress it so they may:
a.) lay out terms and conditions where llimited practice is condoned.
b.) issue punishments and forgiveness for their transgressions
c.) spread fear of condemnation from their god for their failures..
d.) market dispensations for infractions not yet discovered or confessed.

The main example of a practice intrinsic to all humanity, is, of course...sex.

Why do Western religions all fasten themselves on sex?

Because only abnormal members of our society don't actively answer the call to procreate...or at least, are all for the practicing of the act.

It's a slam dunk...make a person shamed for natural feelings...do your best to repress those urges while hammering out the rules of what conditions you must first meet, in order to begin your training in procreating, then you've captured their inner world and pissed your poison into it.

It's all about crowd control...police can do only so much.

So the effect of these policies is to first lock the lid down so sex and guilt can duke it out while building up a head of steam...now you have a volitile population that can easily be moved to go attack unwilling mothers attempting to fix their life with abortion...or go on a crusade...like Iraq...kill the heretics...or even vote for the butch administration...who will arrange means to kill more heretics.

Along with the guilt versus hellfire, a decent religion has a mechanism for dispensations and redemption...a marketplace commodity the clergy simply makes up...like bush and the fed printing up money...an endless supply.

As we have seen...grabbing sexualty and condeming it, is great for controling large numbers of people without labor costs...such as Ford, K Mart, and other financial concerns face...but it is also evident that it is a two edged sword.

Those "holy" men, who make such a show of following their own rules as if they too believed them, are also simmering about to boil over...this is where the alter boys come in...then...as if by magic, they, after being caught...repent, and their own devices forgive them, so they can play the pederast until next caught and lies won't shield them. Then its back to repenting...really repenting this time...give me a break!

They live the good life on everyone's backs, while feeding sickness of spirit into those who support them...all for control.

Like corporations, they never die...the lands they have acquired down through the centries, are lost to everyone else. unless they pay these sickos to lease or share their production with these "holy" men as silent partners.

The long and short of it is that these institutions control great wealth, and use that wealth to unfairly compete with the rest of us...they are a cancer sucking the vitality out of individuals spirit and inner life, and a monetary drain on all of us collectively.

To properly assess the religious body in toto, we must start at the roots of their conception...what is their business plan, and how do they effect it..and lastly. what has been their effect on mankind.

if anyone ever touched my children

I would kill them

I would just walk up behind them as they were coming out of a store or getting out of their car and shoot them in the back of the head and calmly keep walking

Keep them away from the religious right. 3% to 5% of the clergy in America have been accused of doing exactly that. I've been trying to find another group with similar or higher percentage but I can't. It seems the most dangerous place for young boys is near the Catholic clergy.

Sir Moby - followed closely by teachers/principals, police, politicians and finally workplace supervisors.

I was Baptised Roman Catholic in 1953.Mass was delivered in Latin,no red meat wendsday's or friday's,kneeling on a board for what seemed like hour's. I never complained,or asked why...My Grandfather was devout, and to ask question's about the reason'(s)would probablly have got me a sore bottom,to match my knee's...Grandpa passed away, when I was 9.The last time I attended the church was for his funeral. My other familly member's tried begging, bribing, beating, and the threat of damnaition, but I would not attend.Nor have I since. My cousin (age 12/male)was an alterboy untill father Burns stole his inosence...He told nobody untill he told me,after making me swear that I would'nt repeat his secret to anyone.I never did(till now)! The priest became Monsignor Burns,my cousin is still a member of the same church he(and myself)were baptised in.Father Burns died in 1984 of old age.I asked my cousin, how he felt about it,"sad."he said."SAD"after he molested you and who knows how many others!!! Oh,I really do'nt recall any molestation,he answeared... When I was a young boy I prayed for a bicycle every night for over a year without sucsess. Then I realised that was the wrong approach...So I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness...
