Its a Quagmire!... Media Reports 6 Bogus Stories in 6 Weeks!
On Monday October 29, 2007... The Multi-National Force Iraq turned over Karbala Province (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2007/10/us-hands-over-karbala-province-to.html) to the Iraqis.
This was supposed to be good news, right?
It wasn't.
The good news was drowned out by media reports that 20 headless bodies (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/2007/10/twenty_headless_bodies_found_n.php)were found in Diyala Province.
http://bp0.blogger.com/_L6pDyjqqsvY/R2Qmfr4wd7I/AAAAAAAAJys/DKQNu-ToDuI/s400/time+quagmire.jpg (http://bp0.blogger.com/_L6pDyjqqsvY/R2Qmfr4wd7I/AAAAAAAAJys/DKQNu-ToDuI/s1600-h/time+quagmire.jpg)
On Tuesday, after there were already questions (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7068155.stm) about this Diyala slaughter, TIME Magazine (http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1677822,00.html?xid=feed-yahoo-full-world) based their report on this one horrible massacre:
The horrible discovery in Diyala Province Monday was disturbing even by the standards of Iraq's running sectarian violence. Iraqi police said they found 20 decapitated bodies dumped near a police station west of Baquba, the capital of Diyala province. It was a lie.
The 20 headless bodies story was a hoax.
It never happened. (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2007/10/challenge-to-time-magazine-to-get-their.html)
** There was never any evidence of this event.
** There was no official report on this event.
** There were no photos of this event.
** The Iraqi media denied this event.
** The MNF-I officials denied the event.
** The Diala Security Operations Chief denied the event.
TIME Magazine has never corrected their bogus report (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2007/11/time-magazine-quit-spreading-lies.html).

On November 29, 2007... It happened again.
The Western media including the Reporters Without Borders (http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2007/11/busted-another-bogus-iraqi-slaughter.html) organization reported:
11 close family members of Jordanian-based Baathist reporter Dia al-Kawwaz, who runs the online anti-Iraq newspaper Shabeqat Akhbar al-Iraq, were slaughtered in Baghdad. The attack occurred in the Al-Shaab neighborhood shortly after 7 a.m. Shia militia men shot dead two of Kawwaz’s sisters, their husbands and their seven children, aged 5 to 10. They then exploded the house on their way out. This made headlines around the world.
This was a lie, too.

Two days later, the "dead family members" of Dia Al-Kawwaz appeared on Iraqi television smiling and waving (http://www.burathanews.com/news_article_31660.html)to the cameras.
They managed to convince the Iraqi audience that they were in fact quite alive.
** Not one Western Media Organization showed this photo or film of the waving family members.

That's why no one should listen to news radio or watch TV for news. You should always check multiple sources of information.

...TIME Magazine based their report on this one horrible massacre.
No they didn't. It was one sentence, attributed to the "Iraqi police".
The BBC article referred to didn't "retract" the story, as gatewaypundit claims, they simply reported that "Iraqi police" later denied the report.
So we have Iraqi police as the source of the claim and also denying the claim.
So the fact is we don't know what happened, one way or the other. The pundit is right to question the veracity of the report, considering the lack of available information and evidence. But it's equally erroneous to claim that it was "a lie" and has been proven to be "a hoax".
The second example is a non-story. The BBC report states clearly that the claim came from a journalist who said his family was killed, but that his story had not been confirmed.
Frankie's favorite pundit is simply making a false argument. It's a strawman tactic.
And this pundit neglects to note that Reporters Without Borders, the main object of his criticism, posted this:
Journalist fabricated claim that his family was massacred
Reporters Without Borders is astounded and angry to discover that a journalist’s claim that 11 of his close relatives were murdered last weekend is false. Amman-based Iraqi journalist Dia al-Kawwaz had claimed on 26 November that 11 members of his immediate family were shot by gunmen the previous day in Baghdad.
“We are obviously relieved to learn that the Kawwaz family is safe and sound but this journalist’s behaviour is unacceptable,” the press freedom organisation said. “We are appalled by this deceit, which is not only sordid but also dangerous as it obscures the fact that the families of dozens of journalists have been exposed to violence by Iraq’s armed groups.”

You seem to be a sucker for links but remember alot of the links these guys use are more biased then the guy posting it.
Just becuase something is in print doesnt make it true or valid.

Someone lied?
Shocking.
War usually brings out all the honest humanitarians doesn't it?
Halliburton, Bechtel, Blackwater are all doing a humanitarian mission & not just looting the US treasury under the guise of war, hiding behind waving flags & rhetoric about the 'war on terrorism' & claims of humanitarianism & patriotism.
Reporters would lie,
but Bush & Dick Cheney never would.
Frankg, you have brought me such peace of mind.

Nice picture, radioguy.
Again, the quote on the picture quotes "Reporters Without Borders" ("Western Media") reporting on the death of the family and then says that not one "Western Media" source published the photo of the family alive and well, implying that the story was never followed up and corrected.
In fact, Reporters Without Borders, as I've already pointed out, followed up with "Journalist fabricated claim that his family was massacred".
http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=24513
It's true they didn't publishe the photo, though. I'm not sure what conclusion we're supposed to draw from that, however.
Perhaps you'd care to enlighten us, radioguy?

FACT : All liberal media like Time, Newsweek, NYT , liberal bloggers and such have always had a hard-on for bad news in Iraq
We all know this to be true and ever since the violence has come to a halt they jonesin for something bad to report , so thats why in this case they probably didn't bother the check thier sources , its call abuse of speech and irresponsible jounalism and they should be brought up on charges for trying to undermine the sucess of the war in Iraq

Well, that's your own theory, not a fact.
You attempted to support that theory with this thread and, as I noted above, it doesn't support that theory at all.
So do you have any other evidence to support your theory?

So when is Time going print a retraction ?
They will probably take as long as it took NewsWeek to retract their phony Koran flushing story... That is, if they bother to at all.
At least this story was just typical "bash the war to make Bush look bad" liberal bullshit and didn't result in people getting killed in riots like the NewsWeek story did.
