"According to a recent poll, some 85 percent of Poles are against their soldiers being deployed in Iraq, while only 12.1 percent back the deployment. Polish forces have been present in Iraq since the start of US-led military action in 2003...
.... Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Saturday he wants to end the country's Iraq deployment in October 2008 in line with his election pledge.
...Tusk's liberal party dealt a stinging election defeat to the (president's)Kaczynskis' right-wing Law and Justice Party."

What a refreshingly radical concept: a democratically elected official listening to what the people want - and then actually doing what the people who elected him want him to do!
Wow! Imagine what could happen if our government actually did what the people wanted them to do...
...our troops would be home, our borders would be secure... we'd have leaders who respected the democratic process and the Constitution...
wahh?? huh?? Oh, sorry - I was dreaming.

So what ... like 10 Polish soldiers deployed in Iraq ?
Yikes ...... that's gotta hurt:lmao2:
I think they deployed 2,500 troops which outside of the the USA and United Kingdom is the largest show of troops from any country. They deployed more troops then our great allies Japan and Australia.
People think this was a like the Gulf War with numerous countries providing heavy levels of support. That's not the case. It's the USA and UK really.
Poland showed the 2nd largest amount of support with legs on the ground. They deserve your respect Frank.

On one thread, Frankie trumpets "The Coalition of the Willing From Countries That Barely Have A Standing Army" as proof that the illegal war is justified ("see! Look at all these countries who support us! Against the wishes of the evil UN!")
Now when he finds out that even they've had enough and are getting the hell out of Dodge... he's all like, "Poland Who?"
Still, Frankie, the point I'm trying to make here is that Poland's government is listening to the wishes and the will of the people who elected them to office. And they're actually trying to carry out the will and the wishes of the people who elected them to office.
Look closely, Frankie. Study this puppy. Maybe the 100 watt lightbulb will go on in the dimly lit recesses of what passes for your brain.
You see, Frank - what Poland is doing... THAT is democracy at work. Something America has not seen for, lo, these seven long years.

No, that is called victory , we don't need Poland's troops anymore (even though they got thier ass kicked and US forces had to bail them out )
The violence is drastically down , the Brits have handed over southern Iraq to Iraqi security forces , Al-Quada is being hunted down by Sunnis and Shiites , it is so over , Iraq is on the road to new democracy and you can thank none other than the honerable George W Bush , President of the United States of America

So who's left in Iraq, Frankie - besides us? Do you notice that everybody is leaving this party - except us?
The US is like the obnoxious drunk who just won't go home, even when the hosts start washing the dishes and picking up the bottles.
Plus, again, that's not the point. The point is that the Polish government is pulling their troops because the Polish people want out of Iraq.
Seems you just HATE it when a democratically elected government actually listens to, and works for, what their country wants.

I think you're the one that hates that its IRAQ that is going to have a democratically elected government

Hold the phone Little Red Dog , the sooner the Iraqi government gets their shit together the sooner our troops can come home , surely you're not saying that you can give a rat's crap about when our troops come home ?

Wow! Imagine what could happen if our government actually did what the people wanted them to do...
IF our government actually did what the people wanted they would not accomplish anything. We, as a people, are exceptionally fickle. We do not know what we want. We will all scream for one thing and when we get it we will scream we should not have gotten it... for whatever reason.
We change our mind with each passing trend.
If you want to see a government totally immobilized then have it do exactly what the people want 100% of the time... IF the people can even agree on what it is they want for the moment.

And you don't think the majority of Americans want out of Iraq, paulm?
A democratic country doesn't elect its leaders with the expectation that they're electing a dictatorship. And what we have right now is a dictatorship in just about everything but name.
Are you trying to tell me that you believe that's what Americans had in mind when they went to vote: Vote in George Bush and let him do whatever the hell he wants?
Maybe the Poles - having been under communist rule - have a greater respect for democracy than our government does.

If we're waiting for the Iraqui government to get their shit together we're going to be in Iraq for the next 100 years.
You see the Iraqui parliment getting off its ass? You see them trying to put aside their differences and work together to govern their country? You see them doing ONE goddam thing to pull their country together?
And we're suposed to put OUR troops in the line of fire to protect these fuckers while they go on vacation? Bullshit.
First we dance to Osama bin Laden's tune, now we dance to the tune of the Iraqui parliment. What a bunch of fucking schmucks we are.

It is going to be a slow process LRD but just like you were willing to give the Un inspectors years to find weapons of mass destruction , the fledgling Iraqi government deserves no less

I don't think I was as clear as obviously needed. What I said was that the American people don't have a clue what they want until some "opinion maker" with a flashy presentation tells them what they want.
We, the American people, have a very short attention span. We, as a people, will follow whatever trend happens to wind it's way down the road. We second-guess ourselves. We supported the war... now we don't. When we, eventually, pull-out we'll start to second quess that move as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go back. My point was that If the government actually did do what the people wanted 100% of the time on every issue it would spend all it's time running in circles and nothing would be done about anything.
It was a statement on the condition of the American people... not on whether we should leave Iraq or not.

I didn't say I was willing to give the UN weapons inspectors years. I said they should have been allowed to finish the job that they were still doing - until we attacked Iraq. In fact, Blix asked for another 6 months.
It also seems to have escaped you that allowing the inspectors to do their job would have saved thousands of American (and Iraqui) lives.
I fail to see why we should be willing to send thousands of Americans to die in Iraq so the Iraqui parliment can go on vacation.
