Are we surprised?

Spokesman: Iran not afraid of new sanctions (http://www.albawaba.com/en/countries/Iran/219523)

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini on Sunday stressed that imposing new sanctions will have no effect on Iran. Talking to reporters, he said, "If the Group 5+1 member states are interested in transparent-seeking attitudes, the process followed up by the Islamic Republic of Iran has indicated Iran's peaceful objectives."

"If they are seeking to deprive Iran of its legitimate rights by imposing sanctions, it will have no effect on Iran," Hosseini reiterated, according to IRNA. On EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana's report to the Group 5+1 meeting, he said the content of the message is yet to be announced.

On a meeting held between Solana and Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili in London on Friday, he said, "Jalili briefed Solana on Iran's ideas regarding the nuclear issue." It should be mentioned that after these talks, Solana said he was "disappointed."

There is always a massive black market for oil and they understand how to smuggle large quantities of stuff due to the Iran/Iraq war. Google 'Knock Nevis' to see what they used to use to get tansk etc.

Plus they are a self sufficient country so they dont really need anything brought in.

All their neighbours hate the US so will continue to trade with them

January 2009 is a long way off. I hope we can keep peace long enough for a new foreign policy. The problem is that so much damage was done by declaring them "The Axis Of Evil" that there may be no hope of normal relations with them.

At least we can't do it with out current policy.

Iran isn't self-sufficient, but they'd like to be.

That's why the U.S. considers Iran a "rogue state".

The current dictatorship in the US has made it so that pretty much everyone hates America and now has no reason to like you. No one wants the US dollar as it is worthless to most of the rest of the world. Money was pretty much the only reason why anyone has ever liked America.

Americans tend to be insular and think the world revolves around them. The moment they realise that it is so much pretty outside of America they tend to become better people.

---shit wrong thread and I cant find where this is opposed to go ---
