Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others
Relationship persists even when controlling for other variables

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.
The basic data -- based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000 interviews conducted since 2004 -- are straightforward.

I think many on the right feel that they are mentally stable when it's doubtful. That's one of the main reasons to flock to a single set of ideas and not deviate. "If I feel the same way that others do then I must be OK".

Do a little research on schizophrenia and then read some of the signatures on this board. You'll see some that stand out :)

This is a really stupid report.

The term "mental health" is overly broad and not defined. The variables are neither defined nor explored. Ergo, the "findings" are meaningless.

What are they calling "mental health"? That people are happy more often than they are sad? That they have a variety of satisfying relationships? That they feel recognized and fulfilled on a daily basis? That they are optimistic more often than they are pessimistic? That they feel that what they do matters to themselves and those around them?

These, and more, are all things that make up "mental health".

Besides, every shrink will tell you that truly crazy people rarely know they are crazy. And that people with serious mental problems will live for years in denial.

What a waste of money.

perhaps liberals have felt periodically so excellent that they know there is a higher state of being, which mundane daily existence is marginal by comparison to. Republicans have never really felt truly alive, so they have no idea what they don't & haven't felt.
