Rove Points Out Nutroot's Potty Mouths... Gets Cussed Out

The Washington Times (http://video1.washingtontimes.com/fishwrap/2007/11/karl_roves_advice_for_fuming_s.html) reported on Karl Rove's speech yesterday on the political discourse on the Left:

Karl Rove teed off this afternoon on the liberal netroots, the coalition of far-left blogs and advocacy groups who are a new power bloc in the Democratic party.

"The Web has given angry and vitriolic people more of a voice in public discourse," said Mr. Rove, who served as one of President Bush's top strategists until he resigned this past summer, and is a noted technology nut.

"People in the past who have been on the nutty fringe of political life, who were more or less voiceless, have now been given an inexpensive and easily accessible soapbox, a blog," Mr. Rove said during a speech about politics and the Web at the Willard InterContinental, a hotel just blocks from his former place of employment.

"I'm a fan of many blogs. I visit them frequently and I learn a lot from them," Mr. Rove said. "But there also blogs written by angry kooks."

Mr. Rove cited the results of a study that found that writers and commenters on liberal blogs such as DailyKos.com cursed far more than writers and commenters on conservative Web sites such as FreeRepublic.com.

"My point is not that liberals swear publicly more often than conservatives. That may be true, but that's not my point," Mr. Rove said. "It is that the netroots often argue from anger rather than reason, and too often, their object is personal release, not political persuasion."

In response, Karl Rove got cussed out by the nutroots.


The commenters at Crooks and Liars (http://thinkprogress.org/2007/11/09/rove-bloggers/) and Atrios (http://atrios.blogspot.com/2007_11_04_archive.html#1760470508913863769) proved Rove right.

This is what happened when the students at News Buckit (http://newsbuckit.blogspot.com/2007/02/seven-words-you-can-never-say-on.html)compared nutroots profanity with profanity on the right:

And this is what I found, using what I deemed -- through a mix of TTLB and 2006's Weblog Award lists -- to be the 18 biggest Lefty blogs, and 22 biggest Righty blogs. (Not counting this one. :)) I couldn't account for the 6-month time period, and I even gave the Lefty blogs a 4 blog advantage. But it didn't make much of a difference.


So how much more does the Left use Carlin's "seven words" versus the Right?
According to my calculations, try somewhere in the range of 18-to-1.

Rove was right on with this one... The next time you hear a nutty Lefty blogger compare the profanity or hate speech on the two sides of the blogosphere, just remember... 18 to 1!!

Your drawing the conclusion that you're told to draw instead of thinking for yourself again.

1. The Huffington Post sees more visitors then all the sites listed on the right combined. The same could be said for Kos.

2. They are also very different types of blogs with different types of support. Sites like Michelle Malkin regularly edit posts while sites like Kos will never edit speech even though they disagree with him.

3. The sites on the right are also looking for large corporate and church sponsors so they have to remove the profanity.

4. Just because an open forum is run by the left doesn't mean that the left is posting all the profanity. Read through Kos and take a look at who is using the profanity. You will quickly see exactly what you see here.

5. Who posted most of the profanity on our board here? Was it Radioguy or LadyMod?

Just because the left doesn't squash speech as quickly, gets far more readers and doesn't give in to the dollars of the religious right as quickly doesn't add up to your conclusions.

Your percentages are way off. Take a good look at the posts on this forum. Rarely does anyone on the left post out of anger.

Then look at the posts from the right. If you are honest, you will note that percentagewise, there are more that make an emotional post than those on the left. In fact, your mentor, RG has stated on another thread that he debates from emotion. He didn't want to debate Moonman even though RG was the one who called for the debate.

No one has to light RG's fuse frank. He never has it unlit. He no longer has dchristie and a liberal moderator he claims shows favortism to complain about on scam. So now he invents reasons to be ticked off here.

I didn't break a single rule when addressing RG. Unfortunately we can't say the same thing about how RG addresses everyone who disagrees with him here.


All he has to do is follow a few simple rules. Rules I might add that had to be posted due to his first temper tantrum. No one has been shown favortism when it comes to enforcing those rules. But the same boundaries the left have to work in are also the same RG has to work in. If he doesn't like the confinements then maybe he should go to one of those allowed to cuss like a sailor forums that you posted and get it off his chest.

Frankly, if you can follow the rules as much as you are picked on here, he shouldn't have any problems doing so either.

around issues. We all have opinions and if they werent different it would be

A powder keg is powder keg. If LadyMod didn't light the fuse then sooner or later the fuse would have lit itself or someone else would have lit it. If he had the typical emotional control of most adults then there would be no fuse to be lit.

LadyMod/Moonman and Radioguy are going to fight like spiteful siblings. That's just how it's going to be. However if he's going to let it bother him then he has no chance winning of defending himself and he shouldn't enter the ring.
