Exclusive: FBI: Al Qaeda May Strike U.S. Shopping Malls in LA, Chicago
The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence report distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning.
The alert said al Qaeda "hoped to disrupt the U.S. economy and has been planning the attack for the past two years."
Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com that the FBI received the information in late September and declassified it yesterday for wide distribution.
The alert, like similar FBI and Department of Homeland Security terror alerts issued over the past five years at holiday times, raised questions about the credibility of the information.

Sucks to be you, then, because unless there's a mall attack, hillary is gonna be president.
If I were you, I'd be thinking about putting a rag on my head, calling myself Achmed, and running around a mall with a fake gun...

Thank you Bill, for showing us how liberals think that terrorism is a big joke.
Our government officials pass on information that they have received about possible terrorist targets, and you make a joke out of it. Maybe we should take the liberal attitude and and pretend terrorism doesn't exist.

Oh ya, they sure did. And we lost 4 planes and two towers because of it. Moron.

Maybe you should stop peeing yourselves from the terror you've interiorized, the terror that infects your mind, too.
And maybe the Bush government should stop using terror warnings as a political device, leading americans to distrust all terror warnings as politically motivated.
Somehow I don't see either happening.

Actually it would be a classic kind of asymmetric target, and would be very effective.
Which is why it's our patriotic duty not to shop in malls.
To be safe, we better not shop anywhere. Even online, you never know, al qaeda could steal your credit card information and use it to order chinese weapons.
Or, we can put Frank and Radioguy in storm trooper outfits in the mall, and they can tase any swarthy looking guys before they can release their nerve gas.

SUBJECT: Bin Ladin Preparing to Hijack US Aircraft and Other Attacks
1. Reporting [—] suggests Bin Ladin and his allies are preparing for attacks in the US, including an aircraft hijacking to obtain the release of Shaykh ‘Umar ‘Abd al-Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, and Muhammad Sadiq ‘Awda. One source quoted a senior member of the Gama’at al-Islamiyya (IG) saying that, as of late October, the IG had completed planning for an operation in the US on behalf of Bin Ladin, but that the operation was on hold.A senior Bin Ladin operative from Saudi Arabia was to visit IG counterparts in the US soon thereafter to discuss options—perhaps including an aircraft hijacking.
• IG leader Islambuli in late September was planning to hijack a US airliner during the “next couple of weeks” to free ‘Abd al-Rahman and the other prisoners, according to what may be a different source.
• The same source late last month said that Bin Ladin might implement plans to hijack US aircraft before the beginning of Ramadan on 20 December and that two members of the operational
team had evaded security checks during a recent trial run at an unidentified New York airport.[—]
2. Some members of the Bin Ladin network have received hijack training, according to various sources, but no group directly tied to Bin Ladin’s al-Qa’ida organization has ever carried out an aircraft hijacking.Bin Ladin could be weighing other types of operations against US aircraft. According to [—] the IG in October obtained SA-7 missiles and intended to move them from Yemen into Saudi Arabia to shoot down an Egyptian plane or, if unsuccessful, a US military or civilian aircraft.
• A [—] in October told us that unspecified “extremist elements” in Yemen had acquired SA-7s.[—]
3. [—] indicate the Bin Ladin organization or its allies are moving closer to implementing anti-US attacks at unspecified locations, but we do not know whether they are related to attacks on aircraft.A Bin Ladin associate in Sudan late last month told a colleague in Kandahar that he had shipped a group of containers to Afghanistan. Bin Ladin associates also talked about the movement of containers to Afghanistan before the East Africa bombings.
• In other [—] Bin Ladin associates last month discussed picking up a package in Malaysia. One told his colleague in Malaysia that “they” were in the “ninth month [of pregnancy].”
• An alleged Bin Ladin supporter in Yemen late last month remarked to his mother that he planned to work in “commerce” from abroad and said his impending “marriage,” which would take place soon, would be a “surprise.”
“Commerce”and “marriage” often are codewords for terrorist attacks. [—]

More to the point is, do you?
The president didn't think this was worth circulating to the appropriate departments. Hell, the Bush adminstration didn't even beef up security at the airports after this warning.
Please note "two members of the operational team had evaded security checks during a recent trial run at an unidentified New York airport." You'd think that would have entailed a quiet word to a security department or two - maybe a tightening of procedures, or a heads up to the line staff. But nooooooooo. Didn't happen, did it?
Why you'd chose to spotlight this thundering example of White House incompetence in support of the incredibly vague "terrorists are planning to attack malls" is interesting.

Clarke Memo Warned of Al Qaeda Threat
A newly released memo from former White House counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke warned then National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice that al Qaeda was an "active, major force" that needed immediate attention. The communiqué was written five days after President Bush took office in 2001.

Clinton Says He Warned Bush of bin Laden Threat
Reuters
NEW YORK - Former President Bill Clinton warned President George W. Bush before he left office in 2001 that Osama bin Laden was the biggest security threat the United States faced, Clinton said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a luncheon sponsored by the History Channel, Clinton said he discussed security issues with Bush in his "exit interview," a formal and often candid meeting between a sitting president and the president-elect.
"In his campaign, Bush had said he thought the biggest security issue was Iraq and a national missile defense," Clinton said. "I told him that in my opinion, the biggest security problem was Osama bin Laden."
The U.S. government has blamed bin Laden's Al Qaeda network for the Sept. 11 attacks.
Time magazine reported last year that a plan for the United States to launch attacks against the al-Qaeda network languished for eight months because of the change in presidents and was approved only a week before the Sept. 11 attacks.
But the White House disputed parts of that story, which was published by the magazine in August 2002.
"The Clinton administration did not present an aggressive new plan to topple al-Qaeda during the transition," a White House spokesman, Sean McCormack, said at the time.
The White House was clearly irritated by the report, which appeared to suggest that the Bush administration might not have done all it could to prevent the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
At Wednesday's luncheon, Clinton said his inability to convince Bush of the danger from al Qaeda was "one of the two or three of the biggest disappointments that I had."
Clinton said that after bin Laden, the next security priority would have been the absence of a Middle East peace agreement, followed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
"I would have started with India and Pakistan, then North Korea, and then Iraq after that," he said. "I thought Iraq was a lower order problem than al Qaeda."

You're right radioguy. It's Clinton's fault. It's all Clinton's fault. Every goddamn motherfucking thing is Clinton's fault.
How could I have been to intemperate as to suggest that Bush should have taken seriously warnings of imminent terrorist activity. Because, as you keep telling us, Bush is the Best President Ever. Bush is perfection incarnate.
Bush has never dropped the ball.
Bush is the all-seeing, all-knowing, who saw all and yet knew nothing about al Quaeda's plans. But Clinton knew everything and yet saw nothing. So it's Clinton's fault.
Let us not forget that Katrina, Larry Craig, vanishing honeybees, and a footloose and fancy free Osama bin Laden - they're all Clinton's fault.
But NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING is EVER Bush's fault. Nothing. Ever. Never.
Hell, why don't we blame SARS, the Black Plague and inoperable cancer on Clinton while we're at it. That makes as much sense as your "opinion".
What about "terrorists determined to use commercial planes to attack the U.S." is so fucking vague? Under whose watch did those terrorists train in American air schools and board American planes at American airports? Oh, yeah, of course - it was Clinton's fault.
If your fucking layabout fratloser ignorant fuckup narcissistic pocket-lining illegal war-starting America hating embarrassing lazy poor ass excuse of a "leader" would have bothered to bestir his tiny-dicked posterior, maybe 9/11 could have been averted. But no. He was busy cutting brush and playing cowboy with no horse.
Newsflash: Right NOW, after 9/11, our borders are as porous as they were BEFORE 9/11. I suppose THAT's Clinton's fault, too.
You are as fucking pathetic a specimen of humankind as Not-Curious George. Your every response is based on one of two delusional whines: 1) It was Clinton's fault, and 2) All liberals just want to attack me because they hate America.
Jeezuz you're a fricking loser. Stick that in your bush-ass-kisser and breathe deep.

Nothing. Ever. Never.

I think I have got to frame this and hang it in my office. Would you mind Red Dog? It is simply the best response to a Neocon I have EVER read.

Go right ahead...:D
I know it was a bit of a rant, but Lordy, Lordy - I get SO tired of "It's Clinton's fault." It's all very iresome. You'd think the guy was still esconced in the Oval Office with a couple of plump interns busy under the desk...
I just fail to see how endlessly blaming Clinton is going to fix the pickle we're in NOW. Whether you believe he was, or was not to blame makes no difference to the present situation. It's a complete waste of time. And boring to listen to.
