This is something I've been concerned with for a while now - and why I'm pissed at the inaction from both parties. Both parties playing games with national security; and the dangerous left totally ignoring the threat.

Well, certainly they are there and here. Why would they not be? There is
nothing to stop them and all of WA doing everything possible to make it easy.
Why wouldnt they use that part of the world as a staging area...they are not
stupid....whacked out, but not stupid.

The next attack, whenever it is will be laid squarely at the door of Bush and
the Congress who put their pockets and their next election before the safety of America. :banghead:

Of course they are here and in Mexico and in Canada.

The PNAC stated clearly before the election that they wanted the border open. Americans elected a member of the PNAC and now what him to close the border? You voted to have it open.

Now we have all our troops and National Guard over in Iraq. How can we possibly secure our borders with all of our efforts over there?

We've been doing what OBL wants since 2003 and we have to keep doing it or he'll attack us again. We could have taken another approach but that's not what people wanted.

This is the administrations policy. Deal with it.

Well, if ANYONE knows how to get past the borders, it's going to be someone from Mexico.

They are seeking "expert" advice. Maybe Bush should have done the same thing before declaring war?

If all the National Guard was home they wouldnt be sent to seal the border,
just do busy work like before.

This border security thing is the one real conspiracy I believed, between both parties. We already have the National Guard on the border, but they are not allowed to do anything:

"TUCSON, Ariz. — National Guard troops working at an observatory post near the Mexican border were forced to flee after being approached by a group of armed individuals, authorities said.

The event occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday at one of the National Guard entrance identification team posts near Sasabe, said National Guard Sgt. Edward Balaban.

He said the troops withdrew safely, no shots were fired and no one suffered injuries.

U.S. Border Patrol officials are investigating the incident and trying to determine who the armed people were, what they were doing and why they approached the post before retreating to Mexico.

The incident occurred in the west desert corridor between Nogales and Lukeville in the vicinity of Sasabe, Balaban said.

"We don't know exactly how many because obviously it took place in the dark," Balaban said. "Nobody was able to get an accurate count."

The Guard troops are not allowed to apprehend illegal entrants.

"We don't know if this was a matter of somebody coming up accidentally on the individuals, coming up intentionally on the individuals, or some sort of a diversion," said Rob Daniels, spokesman for the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector."

"Since arriving in mid-June, the Guard has assisted the Border Patrol by manning control rooms, doing vehicle and helicopter maintenance, repairing roads and fences, constructing vehicle barriers and fences and spotting and reporting illegal entrants in entrance identification teams.

There are dozens of National Guard entrance identification teams along the Mexican border, including east and west of both Nogales and Sasabe and on the Tohono O'odham Nation.

The troops stand post on hilltops next to army-green tents and serve as extra eyes and ears for the Border Patrol."

Trying to seal the border when 1,500 a day are trying to come across won't work any way. We have to remove the demand. Have any companies near you been fined or busted for hiring illegal workers? You see them don't you?

It's kind of like saying we're going to put people in jail for drugs but we're not going to go after the people selling those drugs.
