So, they did have at least a token small arms engagement at the pakistani Bhutto bombing.

Apparently a grenade was thrown as the attack was starting.

Oddly, this article doesn't say there was a truck bomb, a vest bomb, and a grenade, so it's possible there was just a grenade, mistakenly reported as a vest bomb. And the big truck bomb.

The article says "suicide bombing", but a truck bomb could easily be remote detonated. It's possible there was no suicide element.

Caught in Punjab - that's the area with all the anti-India fighting and militancy.

"KARACHI, Pakistan - Police were questioning three people Saturday over the deadly bombing of Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming caravan.

The men were linked to a vehicle that police believe was used by one of the attackers who threw a grenade at the convoy, said a senior investigator who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation. That blast was followed by the suicide bomber’s detonation.

The blasts killed at least 136 people and injured more than 200 in the deadliest attack Pakistan’s history, turning Bhutto’s jubilant homecoming parade into a scene of carnage.

Police picked up the three men from the southern Punjab province—Pakistan’s largest province and a hotbed of militancy—and brought them to Karachi for questioning.
