View Full Version : I'm in shock! The Iraq news item reported by ABC's Gibson Wednesday night

I don't think Charles Gibson even realized it, but the item he reported out of Baghdad was one of the best stories anyone in the main stream media has reported on since the war began. I couldn't believe what I heard, and still have trouble believing he actually said it.

From ABC's World News Tonight, 10/17/07:

GIBSON: One item from Baghdad today. The news is... that there is no news. The police told us that, to their knowledge, there were no major acts of violence. Attacks are down in Baghdad and today no bombings or roadside explosions were reported.

Even those of you who are against the war, have to admit...

THAT WAS A GREAT STORY!

It's another in a long line of stories and reports that show us that the troop surge is working.

HURRAY FOR AMERICA!

Great find Jim , of course I'm sure it wasn't their lead story

Things are also looking up in Fallujah of all places:

Our good friend Sgt DeBoard from RCT-6 sends this mildly surprising note and video.Gents,

Attached is a clip of ABC out with RCT-6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpcIDVkBB7A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpcIDVkBB7A)
They're almost breathless in
reporting the truth: how smoothly things are going in Fallujah. Other
media outlets who shall be left unnamed have had the same opportunity
to report this, walking through the market district of the city just like
ABC did, and didn't report this adequately.

Things went so well, in fact, the reporter said, jokingly, he was
afraid things were staged because they went so well. Nothing staged about it.
Fallujah is a real city now. They're getting their footing financially
at this point, of course, but things are looking up. Even things like
street lights in the city, newly installed, are making the point.

I hope you find some opportunity to run this. I think a lot of your
readership who no longer participate in the "MSM" can find some solace
in the fact that when they actually come out to where the rubber meets
the road, the unvarnished truth comes out.

R/S

Sgt DeBoard

I hadn't seen that clip... good find... Thanks Frank.

You know what Frank... When it's gotten to the point that even ABC, one of the big three in the liberal main stream media, has finally broken down and started to report good news from Iraq and has actually acknowledged that the troop surge is working, that tells me that it about time for the anti-Bush/anti-military/anti-war liberals to start waiving their white flags, because their party is about over.

Here is an excerpt from an article published yesterday, that had a few gems of good news I thought I would share:

On the ground, Gen. David Petraeus' "surge" strategy seems to be working, with Sunni Arabs decisively turning against al-Qaida and Shiites beginning to reject the Mahdi Army militia of Muktada al-Sadr.

U.S. casualty levels are down to their lowest levels since 2003, Iraqi security force deaths are at their lowest level ever, and civilian deaths in September were down 77 percent below the level of last year.

It's really a shame that America winning the war against al qaida and Islamic extremists, is viewed by the democrats and the liberal left as bad news. What ever happened to the days when every American cheered for America's successes and victories?

Good news, but to connect it to the surge would be premature and logical fallacy.

Not in the thinking of the species "Neocon". Everything and I do mean EVERYTHING is connected to the surge.

That's great news. Now if they can stop the Kurds from crossing the border into Turkey we might find a few months of stability there. Then all we have to do is get Dubya to rebuild the country but it's an election year and we know what he did in 2004 :(

Good news? The only good news from Iraq will be the headline "Last American Troop Leaves Iraq".

Listen folks, the occupation is the immediate problem, not the immediate solution. Everything else — unprovoked killings of innocent Iraqis, torture, sectarian civil war, the deaths of American men and women in the springtime of their lives, the mounting loss of the treasure of the Iraqi and American people — either follows in the train of, or is greatly aggravated by, the nearly five-year occupation of a dignified people and country.

Much like other imperial occupations in the previous century, the U.S. occupation is both a root and an immediate cause of the present civil strife in Iraq. Any hope of a democratic and nonsectarian Iraq and ending the bloodshed requires the full withdrawal of American troops and presence in Iraq.

When radioguy considers the continued death, violence, and destruction in Iraq, and not the elimination of it, as "good news", it clearly demonstrates how desperate we are for anything good out of Iraq. This "good news" our resident neo-cons are so pleased with is tantamount to saying that, this month, your daughter was only raped 3 times instead of 5.

We beat those iraqis like a redheaded stepchild.

It isn't the Iraqi's were defeating, it's the terrorist insurgency and al qaida... Although things are looking much more positive, it ain't over yet by a long shot.

I have my fingers crossed though.

Good post UN and right on target.

As usual one day of positive news and the Neo-conartists proclaim:
SEE?? WE TOLD YOU SO!! THE SURGE IS WORKING!! BAWKK!!! THE SURGE IS WORKING!!! BAWK BAWK!!

I'll be convinced once it is a consecutive period of time when body parts aren't littering the roadside in downtown Baghdad.

And of course, whenever someone points out the reality of their premature assertion, we are Hades himself, bearing the tide of bad news when we only refuse to act prematurely. The "terrists" may only be taking a holiday from their efforts. A Jihad Thanksgiving perhaps? :D

Hey, if you beat the fight out of those iraqi "men", you should be happy.

The sunnis are are the run, the shia rule, the kurds - well, like I have always said, everybody hates the kurds.

Iraqis are quiet and well-behaved, like well-beaten children now.

problem solved. now, get those lazy bums to pumpin'.
