China criticises Bush-Dalai Lama meeting
Wednesday, 17 October 2007 12:30

China has criticised US President George W Bush's private meeting with the Dalai Lama, saying it was 'strongly resentful' of what it called a gross interference in its internal affairs.

Mr Bush met the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader in the White House, despite calls from Beijing to call off the encounter with a figure it accuses of agitating for Tibet's independence.

Later today, the Dalai Lama is due to receive the Congressional Gold Medal from Mr Bush at a ceremony in Washington.

The award is the highest civilian award the congress can bestow.

The Congressional Gold Medal ceremony will be the first time a sitting US president has appeared in public with the Dalai Lama.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said China was strongly resentful of the meeting and resolutely opposes it.

He said they have 'seriously urged the US side to correct such wrongdoings and stop interfering in China's internal affairs in any form'.

US officials said China had already showed its anger at the encounter with Mr Bush by postponing a planned meeting of world powers in Berlin aimed at discussing the Iran nuclear crisis.

Beijing has also criticised Germany, Australia and other Western countries in recent months after their leaders met the Dalai Lama.

Mr Liu reiterated China's position that the Dalai Lama was intent on trying to achieve independence for his homeland, despite the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner insisting he wants only autonomy under Chinese rule.

'The words and deeds of the Dalai Lama in the past decades show he is a political refugee engaging in secessionist activities in the camouflage of religion,' he said.

China has ruled Tibet, a devoutly Buddhist land, since sending troops into the region in 1950, and officially 'liberating' it a year later.

The Dalai Lama fled to India following a failed uprising in 1959 and currently lives in the northern hill town of Dharamsala, which is also the seat of his government in exile.

Officials in Washington said efforts had been made to lower the profile of Mr Bush's meeting with the Dalai Lama to appease China.

But according to Radio Guy and Glenn Beck this has nothing to do with Dubya. It's all the fault of congress forcing Dubya to have a private meeting with the man.

LOL, and when did RadioGuy become the authority on this subject? So far I haven't seen him print anything even remotely accurate on any topic.

At the age of 30, Glenn lost his passion for radio – and everything else – as alcoholism and drug addiction took him over.

Of course I can see why the old hippy can identify with Beck. That's no mystery. :lmao2:

I was answering Sir Moby. If you don't LIKE the answer, then put me on ignore. But spare me your little lectures. Expecially since your comprehension ability seems to be impaired. RG doesn't bother me and I wasn't taunting him. Stating a fact.

When someone mentions him in a post directed to me am I supposed to just ignore them simply because RG might get his panties in a wad?

To do so would be rude. And I am entitled to making an opinion of someone based on their track record on this site. Especially in light of the fact that same person has not been told they can't bear falsewitness against me based strictly on their own opinions. We've already established on this site that just because a person might agree with some things that "racists" say it does not them make them a racist. His insistence that it does only makes him look stupid and petty.

Yes but we're making our country safer.

Remember in the good old days before 2000 when we didn't have to worry about pissing off the commies?

Ahhh, the good old days. Back when the People still voted in the president before they switched it to being "awarded" the presidency?

And we had a surplus?

Vaguely, but I seem to remember things being much better off then.

Things were terrible then. Economic growth was only twice what it is today. Crime was much lower. More people had health insurance. More people could afford energy and homes. China didn't own 10% of our debt. Iran was quite. Chavez was nothing more then a wet stain.

Unfortunately our politicians wanted to have consensual sex with people of the opposite sex instead of wanting to pay for hookers and harass young boys.

I'm glad we got all those fixed.

radioguy is a B Market Bozo. A no talent who if he's on radio at all is payin' the station instead of getting paid by the station. I worked in radio more than 20 years before moving to law. I've done music from progressive rock to Top 40 and stayed with it when it became 'oldies' talk both politics/news of the day and sports. At every station and in every format and regardless of the time slot I was always #1 among women and minorities. Most often comment from women, "He doesn't patronize me." Most often from minorities, "It's like he doesn't know I'm black."

I achieved that by treating people with equal disdain. I didn't discriminate.

There are two people on this board who I enjoy reading because their sense of humor, creativity and uniqueness shines through in their posts. Fact is, I don't always agree with them. radioguy isn't one of them.

What a handle, radioguy. Geez does it get any cheezier? It's right up there with lounge lizard. So the mods can ban me or give me two minutes in the sin bin for making a personal attack but know one thing;

I WILL NEVER SHOW radioguy ANY RESPECT UNTIL HE POSTS SOMETHING WORTHY OF RESPECT.

And just so I stay with the topic. It does seem China is pissed. So am I.
