I realize baseball is declining in popularity, but I love it and was wondering if anyone is interested in discussing professional baseball here.

Of course you do since the Sox are stacked and look like the most complete team in baseball ;)

But the Phillies have that ridiculous pitching rotation, Giants should be tough again, A's had a good offseason under the radar, Twins and Sox should be good in the Central, and of course the Yankees will be alright even with a thin looking pitching staff.

Bring on spring training!!!!!

Phillies are the power in the National League. On paper the Sox are the power in the American League. However, Beckett and Lackey have to bounce back from a crappy year last year. Both of them stunk last year.
The Yankees look substantially weaker. But every year I say that they seem to be right back in there so I never count them out.

As long as we can talk about Josh Hamilton.

j/k, I love baseball....anyway back to Josh.

:D

I do love baseball, but I tend to just like watching the game and great players more than someone who chooses a team to root for.

I watch the highlights, and maybe some big games...but I admit, I like it better when it starts to wind down to playoff time.
There are a lot of games.

And the Phillies picked up Cliff Lee...

and you are dead-on about the Yankees, you can't ever count them out. Not typically.

Now there is a player I would love on my team. I just watched the entire game from September 30, 1967 the oldest full game recorded in color today. It was the Red Sox against the Minnesota Twins in one of the greatest pennant races in history.
They should both Ted Kennedy and Huber Humphrey attending the game.
Interesting, no instant replays.

Oh, and they advertised Schaefer beer and White Owl cigars.

yea, I like watching old games too.

I STILL love the clip...
"The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!"

and the clip of Fisk hitting that homerun!

I remember that homerun. Did you know that the only reason we got that clip of Fisk was because the cameraman was stationed inside the left field wall. Would have changed the angle of the camera but there was a rat staring him straight in the eye and he was afraid to move.

lol...no kidding?

I'm going to drag my father into a discussion about baseball, somehow turn it to Fisk and see if he knows that.

He knows EVERYTHING about sports, I'm reminded frequently.

Still lead you 2-1 in World Championships in this century!

World Series Champinships

27 World Series Championships - Yankees

7 World Series Championships - Red Socks

American League Championship Series

Yankees - 2

Red Socks - 1

All that needs to be remembered is the 1978 one game playoff for the Divisional Title, again, no surprise, the Yankees won.

I prefer to stay in the current century. As to 1978 Bucky Dent used Micky Rivers corked bat. That is fact not myth. Look it up.

That's what Red Socks fans tell their children before they go to sleep at night.

Sure you want to stay within the current century, even if we're only in the first decade of it, because it benefits you and other Red Socks fans alike. All that matters in the end though, is twenty seven World Series Championships compared and contrasted to seven, you Red Socks fans have a lot of catching up to do.

Most of your early World Championships were won with Red Sox players. Try denying that.

An owner that was broke. Did you know the Yankees for a long period of time held the mortgage to Fenway Park?
Steinbrenner is dead now, and his kids overrule Cashman and that will be their downfall. You won't be able to get a decent General Manager after he leaves next year.

I did, you should thank the Yankees every time someone hits a homer over the Green Monster.

The Yankees will be fine. The Steinbrenner kids have a some "on the job" training to do before they find their way.

Eventually they'll buy a decent GM. No worries.

Ask Raider fans how it works out with an owner that overrules the people he hires to put a team together.

Al Davis needs to die first before the topic of the Raiders can be discussed.

There's only so much tolerance with the Yankees failing to win World Series Championships.

It's not a hard to understand concept, eventually they'll buy a GM worth his salt.

I am enjoying this. I haven't had a good Red Sox Yankee debate in a long time.
The only guy I can argue with at work just keeps saying 27 championships when what I really want to discuss is this year and this year's teams.

I think that as a Yankees fan and knowing that you're a Red Sox fan, that number 27 should resonate pure and unadulterated angst at what could have been every time it's mentioned.

It's important to remind the fans of the Red Sox of where their place is at within the grand scheme of all things baseball, I'm pretty sure that's what your co-worker is getting at, in which, he's just doing his job.

I've saved a Red Sox fan once, because he was retarded and wore Red Sox jersey to a Pirates/Yankees game at Yankees Stadium, if it wasn't for my wife asking me to step in to stop the altercation, that Red Sox fan would've been beaten to a pulp, if my wife wasn't there, I probably would've joined in on the ruckus.

The difference is we no longer feel inferior. Thanks to this ownership the Sox will have a few more championships. By the way, Yankee fans do realize that Zimmer was the one who attacked Pedro, right? When someone comes at you, you have an instinct to protect yourself and don't stop to check the age.

I won my fantasy league last year, we only pick from the American league teams. I chose good hitters and the guy I played the final game against chose good pitchers, it was my day. Need to start looking at it again as our draft is coming up.

Someday I will get into that myself. Time consuming and I am lacking in that department.
Wayers look for Carl Crawford to have a monster year. Fenway is made for him. Try to pick him up for your team.

I'll look into it. Back in the old Atari computer days I had a game called Micro League Baseball. You were able to get teams from throughout history or you could draft your own. The actions were based solely on statistics. It was great. You could take the 75 Red Sox and play them against the 27 Yankees.

Makes sense.

I would've liked to have taken some of the teams from the A's or the Giants from the seventies and early eighties and pit them against the Yankees of yesteryear, possibly event the Astros as well with that game.
