I am proud of my country. Proud of the people and the willingness to embrace those who come here to live and prosper.

Other than free health care, we are much like Scotland.

But I am not proud of our current leaders. Can't wait to get them out of office.

I am ashamed of America,
both the government & the people.

needless wars, pointless, hopeless wars are not stopped. in fact they simply start new ones before the old ones have even cooled.

They are financed off the backs of future generations of children, passing IOUs to China, Japan, Arab oil sheiks & others.

Complete unaccountability in everything by everyone. US deficits & ballooning personal debt.

Rampant government corruption, war & disaster profiteering and no one stands up to stop it.

Elections stolen & the factual math that proves it was stolen is rationalized away.

Are people powerless, feel powerless or can they just not be bothered? is it just too inconvenient to care & to act?

It is sort of a relief to be gay.
I don't have to take quite as full a measure of the abomination that America has become. I was never a first class citizen anyway. It may be a rationale, but damn it feels good.

It still bothers me that many of my childhood cherished notions about America are so completely false.

Maybe it is the whole species that is junk.
Who does one go to to discuss, air ideas, share heartaches about it?
Tell it to the big, empty void universe, that never seems to respond?

I guess one lets it all go.
If people act for the most part like trash, then you should treat them accordingly.

I guess you/I have to quit getting sucked into the notion that people are intelligent, because they aren't. Often they can be wickedly cleaver, but rarely balanced, gracefully intelligent.

Maybe i should give up on myself?
do i try to hard to be something i, from all observable evidence am incapable of achieving? Maybe as the impossible task it will give me something to do until i die. Hope is probably never extinguished until we die.

As for America if this is all there is, i don't see much that is even worth starting with. sometimes garbage really is unsalvageable.
it had a good run, sometimes. now perhaps time will move on to other things.

Right now I couldn't be any prouder of my country and especially my President George W Bush

By invading Afganistan , expelling the Taliban , dismantling Al-Quada and yes, bringing all the perpetrators of 9/11 to justice he demonstrated the military might of this country and the resolve of the United States to safeguard its people

He also did the the right thing when by invading Iraq. The threat from Saddam ,wether he had WMD's or not was percieved as real , corroborated by other European intelligence agencies , Bush had no choice he had to put natonal security first and made tough decision, it was the right one

We'd be far worse off if Kerry or Gore were presiden

Saddam could've just let the inspectors do thier jobs but needed to convince Iran and Israel that he had Nuclear weapons program

Someday Iraq and Afganistan will have a stable government and George W. Bush will go down as one of the greatest presidents in history

Yes Bush has his faults , he could do a better job at securing the borders, he took the blame for Katrina and yes he took the blame for not planning in Iraq but overall, he has safeguarded this country since 9/11 while England , Spain , Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have all suffered further attacks from Al-Quada

Try not to be too hard on your country. We all have the same weaknesses and strengths in common. We are all humans after all. We all bleed, love, grieve, have joy, get pissed off and die.

Until Humans stop trying to dominate other Humans, we will always have wars. Doesn't really matter what the reason is, it just will be.

Until we blow ourselves up and give the rest of the planet a much needed break.

Reality will not be so kind, LadyMod.
If things go badly, & still future humans survive, i am certain they will be brutally honest.

Perhaps all ideas [memes?] are a subtle kind of infection, like a viral wave that gets caught in the web of cerebral nerves.

I will have to try to disgorge the notion of 'America' as it rapidly putrifies beyond all recognition. Preservation of [my] sanity may be demanding it.

I will try to remain as calm & objective an observer as i can manage,
& utter atheist prays to the Universe that any new neocon 'terrorist' staged events don't harm my home, way of life & planet i depend on.

Another freedom i have is getting older. I am sure i will die within 50 years, but if i am to retain any adult pride i can not & will not treat the only lifeline of humanity & all known life recklessly & cavalierly.

I almost feel like i should apologize to children for what so-called adults are doing to their world & inflicting upon them.
I know full well i am miles from perfect, but others seem absolutely blind & callous to what they are doing. Even emotionally caught up in words that have been perversely hollowed of their meanings such as 'patriotism', 'honor'. The word 'morality' is almost invariably used as a carte blanche to act unethically & inhumanely & monsterously.

I/We live on a flying sky island, Earth.
Balanced with less than a single strand of spider's silk in a balanced orbit around a benign sun. Inside a delicate fragile beautiful life-giving biosphere.

ManUNkind is taking a splendid miracle of improbability & squandering it on after-life [=death] delusions. HOW DARE they perversely rob the word 'conservative' of all its attributes & meanings.

I am inclined to say eliminate humanity to preserve the planet until a genuinely graceful, thoughtful, intelligent species arises. I love life, but if i could exchange it to purchase some preservation of the biosphere, what higher calling could their be?

The cockroach impulses of primitive humanity should be stopped.
America is now just the biggest cockroach of all.

you think it is something cultural, kres?

overfed? mind-dulled by becoming consumer TV trained pets?

Fear is a motivator.
digressing: I think fear requires a certain amount of biological overhead.
If you are just too weak/tired you just don't care, death becomes barely meaningful as a concept.

Maybe we eat too many energy robbing foods.
Instead of being kinetic beings we are lethargic.
Instead of being enthused, excited we are depressed or cynical.

I will be impolitic, go against my upbringing & raise an unpleasant issue.
A good bowel movement would probably be helpful to unload a lot of de-energized material. end of impolitic suggestions.

We weren't anthropologically designed to have lavish spreads of food before us. That is probably why we favor, mellow, greasy, sugary [salty?] foods.
In the wild we almost invariably needed all of them we could get.
But when they are so easily available we almost perversely must [attempt to]deny our most reflexive impulsive behaviors.
Is the willful power of our intellects sufficient to the task of reasonably resisting our anthropological instincts?
I suppose we can employ any trick we can think of.
Chewing gum for that neurotic need to be consuming something.
Eating more fiber & lower fat foods.
Eating chemically active, spicy, zingy foods.
Getting some real sweat creating, blood pumping, lung pumping exercise,
perhaps gradually working up to that by simply walking.

America has become pretty disgusting. the easy answer is almost like amputation or liposuction of the nation from the planet.

AMERICA THE DISGUSTING.

I wish you well, but you are disgusting.

i like to express myself. It fulfills some sensation-need to think i am doing something, that anything i am doing matters. That my opinion matters. All probabilities indicate that is stupid. One can not lift a universe, a planet, a nation. I hope no one minds my compulsions too much. The universe doesn't seem to.

When the government will bail you out of every and any predicament you get yourself into, this is what happens. There is 0 concept of responsibility in this country. As such the nation will continue to degrade.

All of our problems are someone else's fault and nothing a new government regulation or a new drug can't cure.

i don't mean to depress you LadyMod. i apologize if they are doing so.

I am not depressed. troubled, ambivalent perhaps but i am actually quite happy. certainly don't be depressed 'for' me. If the state of the planet bothers you, i will say it bothers me too. I don't think we are the intelligent species we want to be, and more importantly need to be.

history looks to be steered by calamity rather than balanced reason.

these are arrows of words are meant to piece the hearts of those grown long callous & blind to the beauty, of the life & lives they destroy.

I am not sure how much is melodrama & how much is real, but i am certain we really are looking at very real & quantifiable problems.

Melodrama has been used by the evil that seems to now have hold of us,
melodrama, or the real drama of our actual bigger picture needs to be used if we are to have any redeeming hope for humanity.

Perhaps natural events or alien intervention will preserve us or the planet, but wouldn't it be great if we actually arose to the occasion?
stood up like the thinking adult children we could be.
at least controlling &/or containing our own messy impulses.

There is hope, but it is thin and spotty.
We must track & follow those thin threads of hope to mine them & leverage all the advantage we can from them.
We must not be deceived & defeated by entrapment in false hopes.

================================================== ========Disrupter...on this subject and the attending stance to include it in your worldview, I must say that it is perfect and true...with one small aside pertaining to proceedure: You made an assumption of self discipline required to offset genetic cravings for grease and sugar etc....this is a plan set fro failure...no one can be diligent 24/7...like cigaretes...you can hold yourself off for days, but you will have the smoke in your lungs and instead of casting the cigarete aside, you will enjoy it to the last drag...because you already are charged with failure, so you might as well.

The answer is to reprogram your rewards items. You mentioned exercize...endorphins are a good substitue reward. and there are many other activities...you could smoke without any grease or sugar:)

kres, yes

we are alone in time & space.
if we can calmly, rationally accept that, & know that billions, trillions of beings have managed that before us we can begin to think maturely. Death is not my friend nor enemy, it is just there whenever i arrive.

If we don't do things, 'things' won't get done.
If we are careless we have to live [or die with] the consequences.

Life is maniacal.
Lets choose to make it a constructive, beauty creating mania.

We are dead in the long run. Let us leave a legacy of beauty & good works in our wake.
But let us not be conclusive in it, leaving undiscovered joy for future generations of humans or something. I think that is the harder of the two. Leave the universe to discover its own unfolding.

This is a new time and a bad time, so many changes and our government is not completely honest and I don't know if they ever were...Because of Bush, I see everything in a different light now.

The most ashamed I've ever been of this country is when we retreated from Vietnam

The most ashamed of any president I've ever been has to be the peanut farmer when he let Ayotolla Kohmeni embarass this country by keeping US citizens hostage for 444 days

In your opinion, we should have stayed the course in Vietnam eh? Another 58,000 body bags would have been Kosher with you? Do you even have an ounce of compassion for the victims on both sides in a war or only when it affects you personally? How about the slaughter of Buddhists in Vietnam? the real reason why we went to Vietnam.

If there was any time you should have been ashamed of America, it was when they permitted the Rwandan genocide to transpire. How many Christians were slaughtered because of it?

honestly folks, i is a pretty happy son o a gun.
While I have concern for the world/nation i am virtually beyond any immediate concerns regarding it. A lot of my posts have some cheek to them, the rest have room to add cheek to.

radioguy seems to find pride easily.

Without sufficient bones of logic perhaps life demands large amounts of unquestioning pride. To be unquestioning indicates a minimization of mind.

I prefer, rightly or wrongly, favoring the bones of logic, supporting substantive mind with a sufficient, but not excessive pride.

Yes.

No matter what kind of internal conflicts we have, we always do the right thing, or at least do things with good intentions. We are a model for the world, and that is something to be proud of.

We aren't perfect, but we never stop striving to be.

And we all know how the saying goes, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions". Therefore, George W Bush must be one of Satan's demonic henchmen.

Oh come on, Bush & the neocons are just appealing to the brain-dead.

And the brain dead seem to be responding!

Amazing just how little mind is necessary to animate a human body.

Their next move is to expand into cemeteries everywhere.

They can have my next door neighbors house - they have set up a cemetary in their front yard as a decoration - of course theyve had it there since the middle of Sept as well as all of their other Pagan/Wiccan trash from Walmart they buy every year to please their consumption ridden little brats

You can tell the neocon converts by the cabbage leaf sticking out of the back of their shirt collars.

decaying flesh falling off their bones is also a strong indicator.

humor unashamedly stolen from an SNL skit.

The Neocons on this board are gonna get their feelings hurt you know? And then you'll be a racist. OR worse. :noway:

Would killing Zombie Neocons count as genocide?

Actually, I'm a graphic designer at a sign shop, with some experience in web design. And I have plans if she gets the nomination.

Hillary riding the seven-headed Beast, on the road to the White House - the whore of Babylon. Our Auntie-Christ.

That worked in the south and allowed Dubya to win the primaries against McCain. Don't you think after hearing this for so many years on Fox that people are starting to not believe it?

Oh that's good.

And an accurate assessement.

You do realize that the Anti-Christ (Auntie in this case) was precursored by the one who paved the way for her? Like John the Baptist did for Jesus.

That would make George Bush the percurser.

And the dynasty will reign on! Well for at least 3 1/2 years and then all HELL breaks loose.

Since according to evidence Christ is dead, being pro or anti-christ hardly seems relevant to me,

but then again i fancy myself to be a [Bill Maher] 'rationalist'.

Maybe if you are rational, logical, that makes you anti-christ?

Oh! now i understand it.

if you are logically, rationally 'challenged' & operating completely strung out on wild impulsive emotions & fantasy melodrama, with callous disregard for human life & ethics, that puts you in the 'religious' category.

Q: What is the difference between religious & other mental illnesses?

A: Social acceptability.
