Looking at their website and seeing what a lousy, "couldn't sell water to a man in the desert" type of site it is, with loads of flash, I would be very wary about investing any money in a franchise with them.

OMG the Herbalife people where here while you were here in vegas.. The night we hung out at the Palms *flashing eyes at kinky*.. they took over almost all the available restaurants, bars etc.. even marching in the aisle.. and this was just a small group.. the biggest ones were at the Hilton and MGM.
:melodramatic: a scary site to behold.. Zealots marching to a cause for a bottle of mixed powdered juice.

I love their new marketing approach with those ads they have on tv - make a fortune online...I made 5,000 this month and next month Im gonna do even better...Ive made 12 million dollars - I think I made the right decision...etc...etc...look at my mansion,cars,babes,boat.... just contact us at 123makemoney dot com :lmao2:
What makes it worse is they wont tell you till your third contact with them that they are herbalife...do a search on all the people on ebay trying to sell herbalife starter kits for a 10th of the product price :)

Well that is a good reason to eat them, but NOT a good reason to take a franchise. Before investing in anything, you don't need to know how good the product is, but how well it sells.
Here is a good example: Betamax was a far superior video format to VHS, but VHS had a much better 'sales drive' and was owned by a larger video manufacturer. If, in the early days of video, you had decided to invest your money in video, and gone for the best system, that was Betamax, and you would have lost a fortune. When investing (either buying shares or a franchise)always look at EVERYTHING; the company's history, the success/failures of the company's directors, how well they appear to advertise (not how much they spend on advertising, but how good that advertising is), etc., etc., etc..
Nowadays the Internet is very important in getting your product noticed. Not only is there site no damn good, it also uses a lot of flash, and even worse they have flash on their landing page. Flash is great for amateur sites of the "I think Star Trek is great" style but it should be used sparingly, or better, never, on a commercial site. They have obviously hired a web designer who knows nothing about making a commercial site, and if they hire cowboys in this important an area, how long will it be before they make a mistake that will kill their sales, and so loose franchisees their investment?

I understand what your saying. When out and about I see the lines of people waiting for these dots. I seen a special on Travel Channel about them. Top 10 Ice Cream and they talk about their unique style of how their ice cream is made and as for taste, Hands down, its GOOD!
Another BIG ice cream is Coldstone, Growing here in the chicagoland also. I tried it twice and I just dont get it. The Ice Cream is to thick, but the lines are outside the door.

While a good example, Betamax was put forward by Sony, the largest manufacture of the time (and probably still are). It was all of the other electronic manufactures (Panasonic, JVC, etc.) who sort of banned together to derail the betamax in favor of VHS. But the best format which barely saw the light of day was the laser disc.

So sad, my dad had the basement shelf lined with Betamax tapes. 25 years later, IM stocked up with my big collection of DVDs, Now I see there is PSP's UMD, Next Generation DVDs in HD and of course Blu Ray, Better HD. ALL new formats to upgrade our collections with. :banghead:

Way back when I was in the video business, about the time Betamax tapes were still available but dieing fast (i.e. in the same state that video is in now) I had a customer with an enormous collection of Betamax tapes. He also had an attic full of Betamax video players because he knew the writing was on the wall, and wanted enough machines so that he could replace them when they broke down and be able to watch Betamax for the rest of his life.
