Mitt, Rudy, and Marco are just wackjobs. (I hear Mitt hated the universal health care plan that obama proposed, even though it was completely based on his own plan for MA!)

Let's get Mitt Romney there. He's made a career out of slashing jobs and selling off companies.
Just think, we don't really need Florida since it's filled with old people and German tourists. We'll just sell it off.
Minnesota, too damn cold and the Canadians might buy it.
Michigan, well, it's not profitable but there's some nice fishing around the lakes. Maybe we can sell that the Japanese.
Alaska, Putin wants to invade so let's make it so Sarah can really see him from her home when he rears his head.
Rudy might be interesting as he did a good job.
What about Jeb Bush? The last 2 did worse than Jimmy Carter in economic growth, unemployment and debt so let's do one more from the family. Besides, he was an original founding member of the PNAC so he'll get a boat load of money from Murdoch.

Yes. The political range of the 5 is massive. Romney is a political tool...take him off your list.
Ryan - way on the other side of the spectrum - lives in a suburb of Libertopia and will be crushed like a bug....unless the American people decide ripping life saving health support from most vulnerable is nice.

Yes...if the world is heading to hell in 2012 and a joke like Rubio/Ryan are actually challenging for the White House, we'll be lucky if somebody like McCain (who was not a horrible choice until he picked Palin) steps in and wins the republican nomination. Nope, Hamill, entitlements are the big gobbler of the budget. Defense is #2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A book "The Complete Idiots Guide to Economics" written in 2003 cites the U.S. Government budget as reporting that entitlements make up approximately 65 percent of our budget, distributed as follows:
Social Security: 23%
Medicare: 12%
Medicaid: 7%
Other Means-tested entitlements: 6%
Mandatory payments (pensions, etc.): 6%
Net interest on debt: 11%
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_percentage_of_the_U.S._federal_budget_is_spen t_on_entitlements
(that was in 1997)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Entitlements Alone Will Eclipse Historical Tax Levels by 2052
Spending on the three major entitlements, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, will more than double in the next 40 years. Without major reforms, entitlement spending will consume all federal tax revenues by 2052.
http://issues2010.com/pdf/Entitlements.pdf
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* Entitlements are where the big dollars are.
* They are growing rapidly.
* Given the unsustainable deficits that this growth implies, there are only three possible options: restructure entitlements, eliminate most of the rest of government, or raise taxes to unprecedented levels.
* Sooner or later, entitlements will have to be addressed—and sooner is much better than later.
* As long as entitlements are left off the table, all of the pressure will fall on discretionary programs.
* That pressure is likely to lead to underinvestment in the next generation and to cuts in programs for low-income families.
You can't end them abruptly, but they can and should be phased out.
For example, raise the retirement age (starting 2010) one year, every two years, with a complete phase out for people born after a certain date. Say, 1960, or 1970. That way the people who don't have time to adjust will not suffer, and beyond that, they have time to be ready.
