Maybe we should abolish the 'party' system all-together & require that each individual run & rise & fall on their own merits.
Party packaging is not product.
You gonna buy more empty packages or sniff out & kick some tires to find real product?
I also think only voters from the candidate's own region/area should be allow to contribute directly to his/her campaign & NO 'bundling' crap either.
Others can spend all the money on ads they want, but they can't contribute directly to campaigns, nor should they be allowed to 'coordinate' their ad campaigns with candidate campaigns.
Then the politicians will be forced to communicate with & reflect the views of the voters, & not fat cat lobbyists or party affiliations.

but recognizing a good idea i immediately co-opt it. :D
although abolishing parties is something i did just think of, reflecting from previous posts.

public funding for elections is the only way to go - it will get rid of most of the problems that exist with corruption, bribes, hating, etc etc - but it also has been ruled as unconstitutional so it wont happen

It can - and the current administration is working on it - especially the part that keeps public funding from happening which is free speech - basically, free speech is the argument used in constitutional law in cases of people wanting to be able to donate however much they want to a candidate - and unfortunately - based on that little check-box on your tax returns - only about 10% of Americans care enough about public funding - the other 90% check no to give that $3

Whenever you get into trying to regulate campaigning you walk a dangerous line of violating free speech. A better solution would be for people to stop voting only for reps and Dems. However, like with most thing we believe we can't do anything unless a law makes us do it.
