YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS

The barn

A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, so it
would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal . The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15yrs.; the owner and wife both had died, and there were no heirs. The house was sold to pay taxes.

There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and they
had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway......so, nobody made an offer on the place.

The NY guy bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved in, and
set about to tear in to the barn.......curiosity was killing him. So, he and
his wife bought a generator, and a couple of grinders.......and cut thru the
welds.

What was in the barn...........? Go to;

and start wishing it was you who had bought the place.

That is unreal. I wish I had a barn that big. The cars would be nice too. :D
Myself, if I were looking at the property, I would have checked out the interior of the barn. In some ways however, it's a good thing the guy didn't. The bank/government may have raised the price once the contents of the barn was disclosed.

Uh oh...we've been had. :o There is an article on Snopes regarding this collection of cars. The collection is genuine but the story apparently is false.

It doesn't matter to me, as I was only interested in the cars. There is more detail on the Snopes webpage regarding the collection and the owner.

a 'barn' is a very misleading description of a quite large & substantial building.

Fascinating how popular folklore works.

A good false story will always spread faster and be believed more than a somewhat less interesting truth.

I first heard this story, and saw the pics, months ago. But then it wasn't a retired newyorker, it was a retired european.

So, the story gets better and bigger over time.
