'Next time we'll use more force'

Israel will use more aggressive force in the future to prevent ships from breaking the sea blockade on the Gaza Strip, a top Navy commander told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
"We boarded the ship and were attacked as if it was a war," the officer said. "That will mean that we will have to come prepared in the future as if it was a war."
The anonymous comment came the day after the Israeli Navy raided a flotilla of international aid ships headed to the Strip. Nine activists were killed in the raid, and dozens were injured.
The flotilla which arrived late Sunday night was comprised of six ships, and another two ships, including The Rachel Corrie, were expected to attempt to enter Israeli waters in the coming days.
Greta Berlin of the Free Gaza Movement said earlier Tuesday that a cargo boat was already on the way to challenge Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
A second boat carrying about three dozen passengers was expected to join the first, she added.

I think Israel should just stomp the fuck out of Palestine, and anyone else that fucks with them.
We all know they can, and have only held back because WE have asked them to, but I think they know with the Obama admin they are on their own, because Obama won't even defend this country let along Israel.

I'm just using common sense Bill. Why would you condemn Israel for the violence that took place, and at the same time disregard the fact that it was those barbarians on that boat who drew first blood and provoked Israels use of force?
Any non partisan observer can see as plain as day what happened, and only someone with a horse in this race would see things from the perspective you do.... so you either love terrorists, or you hate Jews...... Which is it Bill?
If you don't hate Jews, and you love the terrorists, then I will apologize and make a full retraction.

You condemn Israels use of violence, yet you won't acknowledge that it was those heathens that drew first blood and provoked the violence.
Based on your posts Bill, "Israel bad" and "Terrorists good". IMO, it was a set up. There's a lot of talk that Bill Ayers, George Soros, Jodie Evans (code pink) and others of that ideological group were either on the ship, or directly involved with the situation. In the case of Soros - funding. I am finding sources on this but not MSM....so far.
Don't anyone start it up with me. I'm not a spokesman or apologist for Israel. BUT I think this situation was meant to create an incident by the activists. And they have more on the way.
Also, have heard reports that the soldiers started with paintball guns and drew weapons after being attacked with activists who "whipped out" knives and maybe guns.
I'm betting that some of what I mentioned is true and some isn't. Seems the event is too fresh to know yet.

The video really doesn't matter. The fact that they tried to run the blockade is what matters. They initiated the response by the Israelis on purpose. They should consider themselves fortunate the Israelis didn't sink them.
Not only should the United States back Israel up on this we should send a few ships and at least one submarine to help them enforce it.

The ships were going to run the blockade.
They pretty much said so, but Israel didn't need to attack them by dropping in commandos, and smoke bombs.
You do something like that, you're going to start bloodshed.
I don't why the Israeli's couldn't have surronded the flotilla, with guns trained on the boats, and escort them into port.
Then if the Turkish activists ( I think the guys left from Turkey) resisted Irsael could have containe the situation.
Lethal force if the humanitarians has tried to pull guns, I don't think they had guns.
Israel was enforcing ti's blockad, but used poor judgement in the process.
It makes Isarael look like facist stormtroopers.
I have great sympathy for both the Palestinians and the Israeli's for differerent reasons.
There was a better way to enforce the blockade, then attacking it like a commando raid.

Terrorist animal Alex's Brit Father's Fears For Gaza Boat Terrorist animalDaughter
11:58am UK, Tuesday June 01, 2010
Pete Norman, Sky News Online
The father of a British woman on board one of the vessels in the Gaza aid convoy raided by Israeli commandos has branded the action as "obscene".
Adrian Harrison told Sky News he had not heard from his daughter Alex for a week and had no idea if she has been injured.
At least nine pro-Palestinian activists on boats in the flotilla were reportedly killed when violence erupted.
Alex Harrison
Alex Harrison undertook a similar mission to Gaza last year
"We have had no news at all," Mr Harrison said.
"We were hoping the British goverrnment and other European governments would prevail on the Israelis and persuade them not to take this obscene action," Mr Harrison said.
According to her father, Alex Harrison, 33, is a veteran activist involved previously in both the Middle East and Nepal.
She was jailed last year after a similar Gaza flotilla intervention was undertaken by Israeli authorities.
"My daughter was imprisoned for a week in some fairly appalling conditions," Mr Harrison said.
"She had been working for humanitarian rights for approximately eight years and she was very much into the programme and got involved with the Free Gaza Organisation about three to four years ago," he said.
Mr Harrison, who lives in Croydon, insisted her humanitarian concerns came before political action.
"Her main objective was to get aid to the starving people in Gaza - she is a humanitarian and that is her primary role," Mr Harrison said.
He also criticised the Foreign Office and its role over the long-brewing incident.
"They have been distinctly unhelpful and the advice really extended to, 'Don't travel to Gaza.'"

A pizza shop boss from Altrincham in Cheshire was also believed to be aboard a convoy vessel.
Co-workers have voiced concerns about Gehad Sukkur, 39, a married father who owns Carlito's Pizzas in Manchester Road.
Shop worker Adel Lamine said: "He is from Gaza originally and wanted to go out there and help the people.
"He also wanted to see relatives before coming back...I don't know what boat he was on.
None of his friends have heard from him yet - we are really worried."
Meanwhile, activists spoke of another three Britons aboard vessels that were headed to Gaza.

Kate Hudson, chairwoman of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), joined a demonstration in London's Whitehall and said she knows Sarah Colborne of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, among others in the flotilla.
Ms Hudson said they had not heard from her or fellow activist Kevin Ovenden, or another flotilla member, Ismail Patel, who is chairman of the Palestinian rights group Friends of Al-Aqsa.
Three Irish campaigners are also believed to be in the flotilla.
Dr Fintan Lane, Fiachra O Luain and Shane Dillon were aboard the vessel Challenger 1, which had travelled from Cyprus in the first wave of the flotilla and was reportedly boarded by Israeli forces.
It is believed one of them was injured but his condition is not known.

Sorry, but the fact still remains. Israel had a blockade in place to prevent ships from delivering weapons. Israel offered to help unload those ships and deliver any humanitarian supplies that were to be delivered. Those that were on those ships knew full well what was going on. They were there to provoke an incident and that is exactly what they did. They are NOT humanitarians, they are terrorist sympathizers.
Humanitarians would have accepted Israel’s offer to help unload and inspect the cargo. Those people on the boats could have cared less about the cargo. They were there to start something in an attempt to paint Israel in a bad light. What they don’t realize is that the only people foolish enough to fall for it already see Israel as the bad guys in this.

So why didn't the ships submitt to inspection before trying to proceed? If they had nothing to hide, what would have been the harm?
You seem to be ignoring the 800lb gorilla in the room. They were NOT there to deliver aid, they were there to start a fight. Would you care to address that or are you just going to revert back to the old liberal standby of "Bussssshhhhhh".

Why is this blockade considered legal? What if Pakistan implimented a blockade of India? Or Iran of Pakistan?
Once the ship entered Israel's waters they had legal right to board. It didn't get there.
It's not so simple.

Well, when you have an enemy sworn to kill you, then you have a right to protect yourself. If a naval blockade is used as a means to keep weapons out of the hands of those trying to kill you, then yes they are justified.
And again, can you address why these ships wouldn't have stopped and submitted to an inspection if they were just delivering humanitarian aid? That would have been a lot easier than risking their lives in an attempt to deliver their aid. Come on SM, apply some common sense to this and see where it takes you. I understand that you never like to address a subject head on and you take great pride in picking around the edges, but for once put two and two together. Forget your political leanings and try to see this thing for what it really is. It was nothing more than a tactic to provoke Israel into an armed response. The sooner you open your eyes and see it for what it is, the better you will be able to understand the actions of all those involved.
And again, can you address why these ships wouldn't have stopped and submitted to an inspection if they were just delivering humanitarian aid?
If the international community doesn't consider the blockade legal, why should they allow themselves to be boarded?
Justified and legal are not the same. "Rule of Law"!
Do you really believe that the world should live in a police state where everyone has to answer to the military of other countries?

If the international community doesn't consider the blockade legal, why should they allow themselves to be boarded?
Well, if I'm confronted with a man with a gun in a dark alley demanding my wallet, even if I know it is illegal, I would comply.
Justified and legal are not the same. "Rule of Law"!
Was the United States justified in stopping Japanese Russian ship entering the Gulf of Mexico in 1962? Its called war, Hamas declared it; they now have to live with it. Just because the European Union and the UN don’t recognize it, does not make it any less real.
Do you really believe that the world should live in a police state where everyone has to answer to the military of other countries?
I believe that any country that is threatened with force be it military or terrorism has every right to protect themselves. And if that means stopping the supply of arms from entering their country by naval blockade, then so be it.
Again, I see you still are ignoring the fact that Israel offered to allow any humanitarian aid into Gaza after inspecting it for weapons. Why would those in charge of the flotilla not accept that deal if they were truly looking to just get humanitarian aid to Gaza? Give me one good reason for this other than they shouldn’t have too.
Just because you're not willing to fight, doesn't mean that others don't have the right to fight back.
These ships weren't Hamas so your comparison is insane. :banghead:
You're confusing justified with legal again. Don't you know the difference?
What if Iran stopped an American ship with relief supplies going to Iraq?
What if Somalia suddenly declared a blockade on Ethiopia and stropped a British Ship?
What is all this talk about freedom one minute and than expecting others to relinquish it without a fight? They were in international waters. Don't you get it?
You will never get an answer to that extremely relevant question.
Wrong again princess :)

PARIS – The Turkish Islamic charity behind a flotilla of aid ships that was raided by Israeli forces on its way to Gaza had ties to terrorism networks, including a 1999 al-Qaida plot to bomb Los Angeles International Airport, France's former top anti-terrorism judge said Wednesday.

She looks like an idiot ass activist that is gonna eventually get herself killed by her own ignorance.
When the idiots on the ships get themselves killed trying to run the blockade they have only themselves to blame.
If I was Israel I wouldn't risk the life of one more soldier I would just have a sub sink every ship trying to run the blockade and then pour chum in the water and let the sharks finish them off.
Where was all the condemnation when Hamas was raining down missles on Israel?
Israel is fighting for its mere existence, today, not yesterday. They have to fight every single day to ensure they exist the following day. There is no cease fire in their world.
How long would you tolerate your neighbor dropping missles on your head and constantly threatening to destroy you?

Hell, AT&T has ties to terrorist networks!
Who the fuck doesn't arguably have ties to terrorist networks?
That crap is played out!
The US was harboring terrorists that ultimately blew up the towers. And Bush flew out a crew of people who had provided direct, lifelong material support to Bin Laden! Can we go blow his ass up?
So that is justification for those terrorists initiating the violence that you are supportively against? I just posted what Joe Biden said in an interview with Charlie Rose. He said the blockade is justified, so how about you address that Bill?
It's about right and wrong, yet you hide behind "international law" to so you can vilify the Jews and paint those terrorists as victims...... Classic.
The Jews villified themselves. They air dropped masked armed men onto another nations vessel in international waters at 4:30AM. Then they killed the people for defending their vessels.
If the Jews were "defending themselves" against some imagined weapons then surely you understand that the people who were looking at masked men with guns might think they were defending themselves as well.
As for the terrorist crap -- that is old mentally challenged excuse making. Your mother could be argued to be a terrorist by the fluid, undefined terminology you use. All it means for people like you is a boogey man you are scared as shit of. That could be the Pillbury Dough Boy!

Okay with me. Let's all stand back and let Israel let loose the dogs of war and no one interfer or condemn the outcome. Whatever happens we all agree to live with it.
The Israelis against the Palestinians. No other Arabs allowed to join the fight.
They fight each other with what they currently have and that's it.
I figure it would take about 2-3 days for Israel to kick their asses and about another week to dig the mass graves to put them in.

I see you are still skirting around my question. If these people were so interested in giving aid to the people in the Gaza strip, why then didn't they just submitt to inspection and allow the aid to then be sent it?
Don't worry, I already know you have no good answer for this, so you will once again avoid the question. Thanks for playing.

So again, you cannot give a good explanation of why they refused inspection. You want to dance around the subject but refuse to acknowledge that Israel is at war with Hamas and is doing what it can to stem the flow of weapons into the region.

Because there was no legal reason to do so. Get it?No, I don't get it Moby and you're not doing a very good job of explaining it. The waters blockaded by both Israel and Egypt are controlled by Hamas and the blockade is a preventive measure to keep Iranian weapons and terrorists from being smuggled in. Gaza receives 15,000 tons in aid/week and the inspection process is standard protocol.
Again, if the purpose was solely a humanitarian one, why did they refuse inspection and also refuse to offload the "humanitarian" supplies in Haifa?
That is the question for which you have yet to give a valid answer.
Edit:
Is Israel's naval blockade of Gaza legal?
Wed, Jun 2 2010
By Jonathan Saul
Reuters
LONDON (Reuters) - Israel has said it will continue a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip despite growing global pressure to lift the siege after a navy raid on a Turkish ferry carrying aid killed nine activists this week.
What is the legality of the blockade and did Israel's intervention breach international law? Below are some questions and answers on the issue:
CAN ISRAEL IMPOSE A NAVAL BLOCKADE ON GAZA?
Yes it can, according to the law of blockade which was derived from customary international law and codified in the 1909 Declaration of London. It was updated in 1994 in a legally recognized document called the "San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea."
Under some of the key rules, a blockade must be declared and notified to all belligerents and neutral states, access to neutral ports cannot be blocked, and an area can only be blockaded which is under enemy control.
"On the basis that Hamas is the ruling entity of Gaza and Israel is in the midst of an armed struggle against that ruling entity, the blockade is legal," said Philip Roche, partner in the shipping disputes and risk management team with law firm Norton Rose.

What needs to be done is to implement a real solution to prevent terrible events like the recent one from ever happening again. This is an interesting suggestion I read by Amitakh Stanford. The only chance for peace is a two state solution. Both the Palestinian state and the Israeli state need to have a seaport and continuous borders. The neighbouring muslim nations should think about granting some land to the Palestinians. However, now we are getting to the crucial part, which is Jerusalem. Jerusalem needs to be either wholly in Palestine or wholly in Israel. A "Berlin Wall" will not work, there would be continued friction and threats of war. Both Israelis and Palestinians are religious, so they should be open to an unconventional solution:
http://www.flyingbuffaloes7.net/keluar9.html
O Jerusalem, take heed. The current situation in Israel is untenable; there is an unending conflict between the Palestinians and the Jews. Jewish inhabitants distrust the Palestinians, and vice versa. The age-old struggle between them has cost many lives, much hardship and untold sorrow. The conflict has generated tremendous anger, hatred and distrust – forcing them to live under a single umbrella has proven to be a formula for unending friction.
. . .
Jerusalem is a major sticking point in regard to a two-state solution, which affects not only the parties, but peace in the region. Both sides have long-standing reasons to be inflexible regarding the city. Both sides have long historical, cultural and religious reasons for their intransigence regarding Jerusalem. This has led many people to insist that the two-state solution have a shared Jerusalem. That is, severing Jerusalem in twain, part to one nation and part to another, or granting co-ownership of the city to both nation states. Are either of these proposals wise?
The twentieth century saw what happened when secular powers divided up Berlin into sections. The situation was so bellicose that the Berlin Wall was erected to section off the city. For decades, the Wall divided the people and caused tremendous misery until it was finally demolished.
The same mentality of erecting “Berlin Walls” is very active in modern-day Israel, as is seen by the walled-off sections of the West Bank. Fencing off sections of Berlin did not work, and it should not be encouraged in Jerusalem. Further, if there are national borders running through the city of Jerusalem, it will guarantee that there will be continued friction and bloodshed in the city.
It is understood that neither party wants to relinquish all rights to Jerusalem, but, in reality, to have lasting peace in the area, is there any other choice? I suggest that there is not. Many centuries of conflict support my position. Therefore, in my opinion, Jerusalem should either be wholly within the nation of Israel or wholly within the newly created Palestinian state. To accomplish this, one side or the other would necessarily have to relinquish Jerusalem voluntarily, if it is to be settled amicably. It should be realized that the side that vacates Jerusalem should be amply compensated for it when boundaries for the two newly-formed nation states are drawn.
Clearly, both parties’ claims to Jerusalem are heavily based on religious grounds. If neither side will voluntarily relinquish the city, then, after solemn prayers, a lot should be cast over which nation state will house Jerusalem. Those who sincerely believe in the Divine should accept that the lot will result in the Divine’s will being carried out.
