Hillary: Rich 'Not Paying Their Fair Share' in Taxes

The rich are not being taxed enough and the economy is suffering for it, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday.

The former first lady broached the subject during a national security discussion at the Brookings Institution. She lamented that the United States has lowered taxes on the wealthy and said nations around the world need to "increase their public revenue collections" to spur investment.

"The rich are not paying their fair share in any nation that is facing the kind of employment issues (the United States is), whether it's individual, corporate, whatever the taxation forms are," she said.

Clinton pointed to Brazil's high taxation as an example that other countries should strive toward.

"Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and guess what -- it's growing like crazy. And the rich are getting richer, but they're pulling people out of poverty," she said. "There is a certain formula there that used to work for us until we abandoned it, to our regret in my opinion."

Clinton cautioned that she was not speaking for the Obama administration as a whole.

While the president wants to phase out the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy, he has persistently battled the perception that his policies will lead to across-the-board taxes for more than just the rich.

The president said at a Democratic Party fundraiser last month that anti-tax Tea Party activists should "be saying thank you" to him for the tax cuts passed by his administration.

So lazy people on welfare with no intention of ever working are paying their fair share? Pathetic. I hate this woman so much. I can't listen to a speech of hers for more than 10 seconds. Her voice is just so piercingly awful and what she actually says is worse. Last time I checked there's a lot less rich people since the recession hit. So what's the government to do? Yes, lower the salary for what they consider "rich". First it was a million dollars, then a half million dollars then its $250,000 then it'll be $100,000 then $50,000... ALL WITH AN INFLATED DOLLAR OVER TIME!

ITS NEVER ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE GOVERNMENT!!!! NEVER!!! EVER! These progressives won't stop until there's only a small handful of elite billionaires controlling the nation along with government bureaucrats pulling the strings. Yes, when you steal money and property from your people and replace it with government that's what going to happen!

She is a practicing follower of Saul Alinsky, (I won't take that back) and a hypocrite of the worst order. Why? Because she is yet another from the hippy culture which espoused free love and collectivist views in the naivete that is inherent in that particular group. They loved their commune mentality (it takes a village) SO much, they grew up, sought power and money and infiltrated the dem party to impose their views on the rest of us.
Growing up in the '70 (born in 1959), I saw all these loonies for what they really were; self-indulgent, self deluding suckers,for the Marxists they naively idolized (hail, Che Guevara !!!). They bought into it whole hog. Now they're Marxists too. They just call themselves progressives to fool the ignorant.
These people are now behind, among other things, "redistribution of wealth"; a well known tenet of Communism.
"Tax the rich" and bring equality to the masses through big govt control.

What's wrong with going back to a tax system that allowed America to not take on debt from countries like China? It would seem a matter of national security.
