My guess is that no one here knows much about this woman but many will be arguing against her appointment as though the have the expertise to know. How long will it take for the Republican talking points to hit the board?

This says it all right here!

"Ms. Kagan's lack of judicial experience and short time as solicitor general, arguing just six cases before the Court, is troubling," said Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the top Judiciary Committee Republican.

You right wingers are the biggest misinformation liars on this board so believe me when I say that you calling me a liar is hilarious.

What I do is just read what you have written and then assume the opposite is true because you are such liars that you don't even know what truth is.

This choice is the wrong one - she leans too far to the right and will unbalance the Supreme Court in the wrong direction. The court should always be equally balanced from left to right since it is a lifetime job and will keep the true intent of the court (checks and balances) where they should be.

If you are liberal you ought to be up in arms telling your congressmen to decline on her - Id be willing to bet there wont even be filibusters from the right during this one - they want her but they will have to put up some fake resistance to look good during November - otherwise - they will just let the Dems get her confirmed

Actually Wayers didn't do as you claim.

Minti, Smurf, CC and Citizen made comments or posted pictures concerning her looks but Wayers didn't. As I said, let the attacks begin and they started on her looks.

They all start to sound the same, it must be because they all get programed from fox news. If wayers hasn't done it in this post that doesn't mean he hasn't done the same kind of thing a thousand times.

The right wingers on this board lie and misinform so much that I just assume everything they say is a lie. If they want to be taken seriously they should stop lying so much.

No you just found another way to put down someone that is not a right wing neo nut.

Historically plenty of Supreme court justices have had no direct experience as a judge. There is nothing in the constitution that states a Supreme court justice must have experience working as a judge.

She does have plenty of experience as a lawyer and as an educator of the law but of course you wont bother to look at that because that would mean you would have to be honest and not just partisan.

The last time was 38 year ago numb nuts. Maybe we should start appointing engineers with no experience to be project managers for the Bay Bridge, you would probably like that one too.

And for the entire preceding history of the United States there has always been at least one that did not have judicial experience on the court - it is only since 38 years ago that presidents starting trying to get justices that had political swing into the court to back their "causes"

Maybe its time we go back to not having any of them be former judges so that we can reinstate the checks and balances that the Supreme Court is supposed to have so we can get rid of stupid rulings on things like corporations having eminent domain over your personal land etc

How many can you name that were only law professors?

The reset were all litigators at some level.

Kagan is less experienced than Harriet Myers. She's just a political hack.

Linkster
05-11-2010, 12:05 AM
Of the 40 I know of 6 were litigators, a few were US Attorneys which is not a litigator position, labor secretaries, chairman of the SEC, governor of California, a few other governors, secretary of the interior,a few senators and representatives, as well as a speaker of the house in Mass, secretary of state etc etc...so no it is actually not normal for the person to have a lot of litigation experience

Every one of them was a qualified lawyer - just as Meirs was - and quite frankly - it really doesnt matter what we think as it only matters what the congressmen think when they vote her in

I mean afterall, look who we elected as President.

A community organizer for a group notorious for voter registration irregularities and a Constitutional scholar who thinks the Constitution is a flawed document.

What a bullshit line. You could say that about any politics argued anywhere but in a legislature.

She's less qualified that Myers...who got laughed out of the nomination process.

Then Im sure you can waste alot of breath arguing against her - but the Dems already have the votes to pass her - and the republicans dont want a fight to carry on into the fall because that would make them look bad - so they will put up their little fronts till recess time and then they will vote and she will get confirmed

Republicans could filibuster it. To not do so would not be serving the country.

Are you saying they should not pass her?

Actually they cant filibuster it because too many people have already committed to not doing that on the republican side

Im saying it really doesnt matter whether she passes or not because she would be too far to the center to change any balance in the court as it stands right now - if another judge were to die or retire then maybe a second nominee would make a difference
