If it plays out that Craig doesnt completely blow away the PR campaign next week planned for the report to congress and the amazing progress in Iraq - Look forward to hearing Bush and his lackeys pushing the notion that they are considering reducing troops by 30,000 next spring

Its a bold faced LIE - they know that there are around 30,000 troops that have to come home in the spring as they cannot be extended anymore by law - and there are no other troops to replace them anywhere - so its gonna happen anyway - its not a concession or result of the "good work" in Iraq - its just a fact of troop rotations

I thought everyone knew that we didn't have enough troops to sustain 160,000+ for much longer.

...

Oh, I forgot, we're talking about red staters and american idol americans.

They can't read anymore.

Sorry, my bad.

Don't believe the hype. A soldier's tour of duty can be extended until the end of his or her contract for any reason. It can be extended beyond the length of his her contract for various reasons including, but not limited too:

They are prisoners of war
They are wounded and getting treatment
They are re-enlisted by act of Congress

Anyway, we all know that this is not a fight to win or lose Iraq, it's a fight to make the Democrats officially surrender in 2009 or support the war and finish it right. That's why republicans are preventing the democrats from ending the war early. Only way we can get them to do what's right is to make the consequences all theirs if they surrender and leave.

Jennifer - no hype here - right now current military law limits a war time soldiers overseas deployment in a war zone to 15 months - used to be 12 months - and congress recently went along with the extension to 15 months requested by the Defense Dept temporarily

That is different than a "tour of duty" which I agree can be extended for those reasons - a war zone tour is a different animal
