CNN Polls 2012: Obama Leads Everyone, Huckabee Leads Republicans, Almost Nobody Likes Sarah
by Doug Mataconis @ 3:16 pm on April 13, 2010. Filed under 2012 Election, Barack Obama, Democrats, Elections, Hillary Clinton, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Political Parties, Politicos & Pundits, Politics, Republicans, Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty

There’s a new CNN/Opinion Dynamics poll out today about the 2012 race, and it shows that President Obama continues to lead all potential Republican challengers:

1. Barack Obama 53 vs. Mitt Romney 45
2. Barack Obama 54 vs. Mike Huckabee 45
3. Barack Obama 55 vs. Sarah Palin 42
4. Barack Obama 55 vs. Newt Gingrich 43

Among Republicans, Mike Huckabee has a slight lead over the rest of the field

1. Mike Huckabee 24 (+7 since last poll)
2. Mitt Romney 20 (-2 since last poll)
3. Sarah Palin 15 (-3 since last poll)
4. Newt Gingrich 14 (+6 since last poll)
5. RonPaul 8 (unchanged)
6. Rick Santorum 3 (-2 since last poll)
7. Tim Pawlenty 2 (-3 since last poll)
8. Mike Pence 2 (-2 since last poll)
9. Haley Barbour 1 (unchanged)

In other news, Sarah Palin continues to have sky high unfavorable ratings — 55% view her unfavorably vs. 39% who view her favorably.

And, this is interesting:

Barack Obama 57 % favorable / 41% unfavorable

H. Clinton 61% favorable / 35% unfavorable

A marked change, mostly in Hillary’s favor, from the aftermath of the 2008 Election.

The most interesting thing, though, is that, for the moment at least, Barack Obama leads all of his potential GOP opponents, despite the fact that his approval numbers have been slipping rather consistently over the past few months.

Just kidding on that one.

bairdi,

Do you have any data about the sample size of the poll?

bairdi,

Do you have any data about the sample size of the poll?
Interviews with 1,008 adult Americans, including 907 registered
voters, conducted by telephone by Opinion Research Corporation
on April 9-11, 2010. The margin of sampling error for results
based on the total sample is plus or minus 3 percentage points
and for registered voters is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Using the graph below it appears Obama is simply the second coming of Carter

That poll isnt comparing him to republican front runners.

P.S. he might be low right now but he is still above his disapprovals and much higher then any republican. What you dont seem to remember wayers is that an election takes at least two people and your side has no one that has a chance of beating the President.

But Obama always loses to any generic Republican. So do Democrats in Congress.

Why do you think that is? He loses to generics, but woops specific candidates?

When is the last time a President with 45% approval whooped anyone?

Think Jimmy Carter. The Democrat party intends to survive Barack Obama.

Thank God the election isn't going to be held today, or America would be fucked.

This gives republicans plenty of time to find a formidable opponent.

THAT is a sensible post. Politics is mainly PR. But....... the candidate must be at least perceived as credible. If the Republicans can get a good spin going behind a "credible" candidate, David Plouff of the Obama campaign could very well have his hands full.

Ronald Reagan was not a credible candidate in 1978. But the failure of Jimmy Carter was more than spin or campaign could overcome.

There are many good people who are more qualified than Barky to be President. If America can elect a community organizer/professor as President with absolutely no executive experience then anything is possible. After all, this is America.

That remains to be seen. What's Mr. Bush's dog's name? Run him and see what happens.

McCain's day is over and I'm glad. He should have retired 10 years ago.

At the rate the American people are turning on Barky, the repubs could nominate a clean, articulate, nice looking neophyte like Barky. Michelle Bachman has a PHD in tax law. Maybe we should put her in the White House so she can clean up this fucking mess that Barky will leave us.

Fine. My point is the candidate should be credible and the Repubs gotta get their spin machine going. Politics is PR. Simple. Bachmann knows it. That's why she puts herself in front of the camera all the time.

I think the Republicans should find a nice native american wheat farmer to run. With the right spin maybe the tea party supporters would vote for him.

What need is there to spin this disastrous Presidency?

It doesnt matter who wins elections anymore all we are doing is voting for a different shade of the same ideology. Regardless the outcomes I expect more of the same.
