WASHINGTON -- The Democratic Party's favorability rating dropped to an all-time low of 41 percent in the Gallup poll -- the latest worrisome indicator in an election cycle that has the party sweating.

The rating is a percentage point below the Republican Party's score, which has climbed over the last year as the GOP dug in its heels against President Obama's agenda.

The Democrats' bad numbers are five points below the party's worst previous favorability rating, recorded in 2005, and represents the worst rating in 18 years of surveys.

The poll comes after a separate survey last week showed Republicans passing Democrats on the "generic" ballot test, where Americans state the party of the candidate they plan to vote for in their congressional districts -- a rarity in the poll's 60-year history.

"We need to be in a better place clearly, the Democrats, but it's not like the Republicans are seen as a much better brand," said Democratic consultant Fred Yang, of Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group.

The Real Clear Politics average of generic polls gives Republicans a 2 percentage-point advantage, which could signal a bloodbath on Election Day.

You know what thet means?

In 2012 Obama will just use a Republican controlled Congress and Senate, for his excuse on why the country is in a mess, to get re-elected.

Most people have short memories.

Most people have short memories.Good point, but I don't think we even need both the Senate and the house for gridlock -- just one.

As I've often said, as you know, I think the Republicans and Democrats have done such a wonderful job that they should take the rest of forever off. So I hope all their poll numbers tank, as they should.
However...
This poll is being reported spun like hell, and the obviousness is in the verbage. Lowest ever yet 1 point above a RISING republican count? That would be an impossible statement, gibberish. 2 perc. point after a year equates an forthcoming bloodbath only in someone who greatly desires to read that truth into it.

Shoddy work from such a mainstream and well financed news source.

It isn't for lack of trying. People are just fed up. All the word twisting and misrepresentations doesn't put food on the table or make the totalitarian bill shoved down their throats any less tyrannical.

Thank God people aren't listening to them and instead making up their own mind.

It doesn't change the fact that ABC, NBC and CBS are cheerleaders for the administration.

They are doing their liberal duty and promoting the liberal agenda as they always have. The difference is, America isn't buying their bullshit. Oops, I mean with the exception of the brainwashed Obama drones, America isn't buying their bullshit.
