View Full Version : Pawlenty repeats false tale about Obama teleprompter

Everyone knows that President Barack Obama relies on a teleprompter a lot when giving talks. He even used one to talk to a dozen members of his own Middle Class Task Force a few weeks ago.

But Obama critics are seizing on one of the times he did NOT use the device to ridicule him.

The latest was Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a possible candidate for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination.

"President Obama was in a grade school classroom speaking to elementary school children and he was using a teleprompter," Pawlenty said Friday in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

"You've got to be kidding me," he added. "That's not a joke. That's a real story."

Actually, it's not. The tale spread by bloggers over the Internet and in some media, including the Comedy Channel's Jon Stewart, blended together two Obama appearances Jan. 19 at the Graham Road Elementary School in Falls Church, Virginia, to make it appear he used the teleprompter when speaking to a classroom of 30 pupils.

In reality, Obama sat on a chair and spoke with the pupils without the device.

In a different classroom, he used the teleprompter to give scripted remarks on education to television cameras.

Hey Einstein. There were two events. Here's the other one that Pawlenty was talking about. You've been fooled again by the state run media. You obviously didn't read the caption under the video that syas....White House video of Obama at Falls Church school. No teleprompter. To watch the event at the same school where Obama used the teleprompter, go here.

Since Ronald Reagan, the only Republican President to leave American in better economic shape than when he took office, used teleprompters, why is it a big issue when another President does it?

When we've been told for two years how intelligent and God-like this President is, it just looks ridiculous to use a teleprompter and then read it word for word and even repeat the mistakes made by his gophers. "Corpseman". C'mon man, you know that is pretty stupid for a President and Commander in Chief. Are they gonna have to start using ebonics or phonetic spelling so he doesn't look so dumb?

You guys need to wake up and smell the coffee. Obama is way in over his head..... one term and out.

He didn't "mispronounce" anything. He was ignorant of how to pronounce it. That's a big difference. From the online dictionary:

mis·pro·nounce (mspr-nouns)
v. mis·pro·nounced, mis·pro·nounc·ing, mis·pro·nounc·es
v.tr.
To pronounce badly or incorrectly.
v.intr.
To make a poor pronunciation.

mispronounce [ˌmɪsprəˈnaʊns]
vb
to pronounce (a word) wrongly

I would say he did mispronounce it.

Now did he mispronounce it because he didn't know the correct way, yes I would agree although I doubt if he did a similar thing with Marine Corp or Press Corp. Now if he mispronounced it on purpose well that would be even worse, wouldn't it?

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas brought adulation over President Obama’s Cairo speech to a whole new level on Friday, declaring on MSNBC: "I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God."

Thomas, appearing on Hardball with Chris Matthews, was reacting to a preceding monologue in which Matthews praised Obama’s speech: "I think the President's speech yesterday was the reason we Americans elected him. It was grand. It was positive. Hopeful...But what I liked about the President's speech in Cairo was that it showed a complete humility...The question now is whether the President we elected and spoke for us so grandly yesterday can carry out the great vision he gave us and to the world."

Oh I forget, if boogieman reads something in Newsweek magazine then it must be true, right? :lmao2:

Nor is it necessarily saying much. As I said before, 30% of Texans (which is the second most populous state) think humans and dinosaurs coexisted, that kind of stupidity is setting the bar awfully low.

Addressing a small press pool at a kiddie school, a rodeo or when exiting Airforce one is the not the same as the SOTU or a speech in a formal setting. He mispronounced the word because he didn't know how to pronounce it. He did it 3 times in the same speech.

The rest of your post you can stick up your ass.

In case you didn't know, the Presisdent also mispronounced the same word at a speech in front of soldiers before this speech.

Hannity had the video on his show.

There was an audible gasp from the soldiers when he said the word that way.

Why would he mispronounce it again in a subsequent speech?

Like I have said before, for me education has no value, it is what you do with the education that is important.

Corpsman is a common word that any school grade child should know.

I saw it as an insult to the troops that their leader didn't know how to pronounce a whole branch of the military.

I saw it as an insult and more. I saw it as a realization for millions of Americans that the man they elected to lead us is ignorant of the things he should know as President and Commander in Chief. God help us.

"I saw it as an insult to the troops that their leader didn't know how to pronounce a whole branch of the military."

Umm... What branch is that ?

Let's see: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard.

Nope. Don't see a "Corpsmen" branch.

Maybe Boogie and Mason can identify it.

ps: People in the Midwest frequently mispronounce "corpsman".

Do you just post to exercise your fingers?

Marine Corps is what he doesn't know how to pronounce and yes it is a branch of the military.

A Marine is a Corpsman

Ummm....Mason: I don't want to be embarassed at some future date, so I'll tell you this discreetly: The big hooraw was about Navy Corpsmen - which- God save the Republic-he mispronounced as "corps(e)men".

Navy Corpsmen are medical officers and enlisted : some of whom are assigned to Marine Corps units, with most assigned to the Navy.

A Marine is not called a "Corpsman". We call ourselves Marines.

We are called a lot of other things: some of which are not flattering - especially when we publish a gentle rebuke such as this.
